quite an ironic coincidence. the ADAC (biggest german automobile club) has made a study on all german bridges that are maintained by the communities. numbers show that 10% are in a poor state whereas two are in really bad shape of which, one had to be closed immediately.

i don't know if this is a 'good' result since there is no frame of reference to other countries. but generally the bridges tested were all in a good state.

Apparently a review of the bridge design has shown a flaw, which may affect a large number of truss type bridges in the US.

As with any collapse of this type it is usually a combination of alot of things.

They have also mentioned a large 100 ton pile of gravel on the bridge in one spot.

From the video the bridge had a shear failure at one end. They are looking hard at the rivited plates which hold the members together.
