My brother's got a Gibsong SG....which is like, our dream guitar....
I'm a drummer, so I have a pearl export, soon to be exchanged by a vintage ludwig...We started a band a while ago, with another guitarrist that had a strato...but now my bro's gone, so it's me, the guitarrist and the bassman...
I'll post pics up

wow cho thats a impressive collection
SFDMALEX - hey I wanted a guitar for a while now, just to mess around on, so Im intending on buying one shortly (a cheapish one). If I like it I'll prolly have lessons. But it seems I'm starting out with the same exsperience you did, and I'll prolly look around the net for lessons to start with, and see how I like it. You have any advice?

My advice, go and read online, and get the feel for the guitar your self. Learn to play your self and play what you want.
A lot of times teachers make you play what they want not what you want. And make you play in a certain way which might not suit you.
To be honest I never felt a need for a teacher. I usualy have a question or two when I learn some new and very different song so I just ask someone who plays etc.
But I dont like stuff to be taught to me in general I figure everything out by my self ususaly

while, i agree with that, i believe that you will never stop learning and you should never under estimate a teacher, generally they always have something more up theirs sleeves. if you are going to attempts some of the trickier techniques a teacher is the key, you just cannt write down some of this stuff. What you need to do is find a teacher that suits your style of playing and that you can really talk to. I have students come in and when i ask what sort of music they like they reply " i dont listen to music" and thats when it becomes boring for them. if they tell me what they want to learn i will teach it to them

/\/\/\ I agree.
I just believe that at first the person should get a feel for the guitar him/her self...play a few months by your self, and when you get decent at it, find your self a teacher and learn some new techniques etc...
I say that because a few of my friends had/have teachers and they still cant play sheet, because the teacher forced him to pick this particular way, to have his fingers at a certain postion all the time....I think these things you should figure out by your self. Even if its not by the book, who cares..as long as you look good doing it 8)
you know what I mean? Instead of helping you, they tell you what to do...I dont mean all, from what I herd so far thats how it is.
Id get a teacher now, If I could....to bad time doesnt permit.

Well I did go and buy one yesterday, Had a quick go before I went to bed. But I do plan to have a good blast on it when I have the house to myself. It was only a cheap one to get me started, thants ok init? cost £130.
I was just wondering if anyone has any decent websites, or DVD recommendations where I can learn the very basics.
I thinkn I need to start with abit of theory as I dont even know what the pitch pipe, or the hammer does
Well seems I got alot of reading to do
