Don't care, I wont support either of them until the price is low
not reletively low
not low for what it does
real, and genuinly low.

This is true in many ways.

Beta is still being used today by Television studios; it never died, it just went higher-end; and more expensive, and more limited

vs 10 million HD DVD?
who knows
I stand by what I said
It wouldn't suprise me to see blu ray become the TV tech standard; yet unable to win in the mass consumer market.
the sad thing is, people actually shelled out 600$ for a PS3 because its the cheapest Blu Ray on the market.... yet, sony controls the price, and will maintain levels to keep the PS3 wihtin a margin, until outside-ish forces force sony to drop the retail on blu ray consumer players...

initial launch for hd -dvd players was 100,000....blu-ray will kill that with in a month of ps3 release...toshiba is the only one relatively speaking making the players...it will not be able to keep up with Panasonic, LG, Samsung, Sony for developement, marketing or lower costs later on...Most of studios are behind blu-ray although a lot of them are releasing for both...bd is got too much backing for Sony to fuck it up this time

BD vs HD DVD
BD max bitrate: 54 Mbit/s
HD DVD max bitrate: 36.55 Mbit/s
And they use the same codecs...
Initial versions of Sony's Blu-ray Disc-authoring software only included support for MPEG-2 video, so the initial Blu-ray Discs were forced to use MPEG-2 rather than the newer codecs, VC-1 and H.264. An upgrade was subsequently released supporting the newer compression methods so the second wave of Blu-ray Disc titles were able to make use of this. The choice of codecs affects disc cost (due to related licensing/royalty payments) as well as program capacity. The two more advanced video codecs can typically achieve twice the video runtime of MPEG-2.

Nevertheless, it seems that the current state actually doesn't have one format trouncing the other as many believed would happen after a few months unfolded. Essentially, consumers are "generally indifferent" to the two, and considering there's just seven more HD DVD titles currently available than BD titles, it doesn't look like one or the other will win on sheer studio popularity. While we've seen the Blu-ray-equipped PS3 outsell Microsoft's HD DVD drive 5 to 1, there isn't much substance in such a statistic, but apparently Taiwan-based manufacturers are rethinking their previous denials of unleashing a player that handles both discs.
DigiTimes has it that Samsung is "planning to offer dual-format recorders that can record and play back BD and HD DVD movies," while Hitachi (a devout member of the BDA), is also "considering production of dual-format devices." They also went so far as to point out the obvious when noting that a "dual-format device would be more expensive than a single-format unit" -- but hey, it's likely cheaper than buying one of each, eh?

LG officially announced it will develop a dual-format Blu-ray and HD DVD player, and analysts are saying that the company plans to launch the much-rumored device this fall. John Taylor, a US spokesman for LG, said
LG is a supporter of Blu-ray and is now considering a dual format player for later this year.
Last week, LG became the second member of the Blu-ray club that said it would also support HD DVD. The first was HP, which should be credited for having the presence of mind to be the first to decide to straddle the fence in this absurd replay of the VHS/Betamax wars.
