Not sure what you are getting at - everyone and their uncle thinks the new Z06 should not cost more than $60K - it's not worth any more.
Truth be known, a 911 TT is not worth $130K - but that's what it costs.
An Enzo is not worth $700K let alon $1-million.
The value is not a measure of the cost or the sum of the parts - but rather what the "people" perceive as the value - that doesn't MAKE it worth that.
In fact, a painting that has $100 worth of material in it selling for millions is just a PERCEIVED value - not real.
And things change in value.
In the late 1980's you could not buy a used Testarossa for less than $500,000 - let alone a new one. Now they barely fetch $70K.
False, hyped demand by the wealthy does not mean actual value.
So - with that being said, the guy who drops $300K on a Ford GT and never drives it has not "made a value purchase" - he is speculating on the value of the car as an investment and wants to flip it for profit.
The guy who buys a Diablo or F355 to enjoy on the odd weekend jaunt such as Jabba does is the true auto enthusiast, who like the rest of us is kept away from the cars we will really appreciate because of the stupid rich and speculators.
Buys like Mikes dad who can easily afford to buy an Enzo for every day of the week, but only choose the cars that really appeal to them (such as his Enzo, F50 and soon 575GTHC) are the dream enthusiasts - who have the taste and money AND desire to enjoy the few cars they do buy.
The punter wo pays $90K for a new C6 Z06 when the car will be worth $50K in 2 years just has more money than sense and wants one at any cost.
