Audi A4 3.0 VS. BMW 330xi

I dont know about all you guys but I would wayyyyyyyyyyyyy rather go with the Audi A4. Come to think about it. I'm Considering a Audi A4 1.8T or a Mercedes C class. Still debating but yet I still have a lot of time left to choose.

If you want an AWD car for Canadian winters, why don't you consider the new Subaru Legacy GT? My family owns the older Legacy and I can tell you that it has the best AWD system. We test drove the Bimmer 330XI and Audi A4 1.8quattro and I can tell you that it's symettrical AWD handles much better in wet or snowy conditions. In the dry, the Bimmer is better but the Scobby is still better than the Audi in the dry. The Subaru is also significantly cheaper and the most powerful.

The new Legacy features a turbocharged 2.5L H-4 producing 250hp or a 3.0L H-6 also producing 250hp. The turbo can go 0-60 in only 5.8 seconds. You might be thinking that the interior of the Subaru is much worse but the new one isn't too bad; it's a shame that you can't get the nav system that Japan gets right now. Hopefully it will become an option soon. Anyways, the quality of the interior is a bit cheaper than the Audi and Bimmer but it looks quite good. Here are some pics of the car:

This Subaru is very nice....but I guess its not that cheap....maybe the same as a 330xi...

Its actually a lot cheaper. Here is the top of the line GT Limited with the H-4 turbo motor(the H-6 isn't available in North America yet):

The new Legacy IS pretty but it DOES have that nasty interior. Go for the Audi, quality + infallability of the Quattro system, although electronics can be less than reliable...like all high tech German cars.

The interior isn't that bad, it actually looks quite good. The interior is made of cheaper materials than its German competitors but the car is also much cheaper; you get what you pay for right? Anyways, I still say go for the Scooby. It is the fastest and more of a drivers car than the Audi and demolishes the Audi and Bimmer in inclement weather, which Canada has lots of.

Can you please elaborate? I want to know what to watch out for with out Subaru. My personal experience with Subaru has been extremely good. My family has owned a 20001 Subaru Legacy L and we traded that in a while back for a 2003 Legacy L SE. Our first Legacy performed extremely well. I beat the shit outta the car and it still gave no problems at all. Our current Legacy is even better due to the stiffer suspension and other updates. Hopefully, another Legacy will be coming soon. The only gripe I have with Subaru is their service; they are terrible at best. So, can you please tell me what to look out for in my Subaru? Thanks.

I have also driven all three cars (not the exact models for the Audi and Subaru) and I still say that the Subaru is a very good drivers car. Better than the AUDI, not the BIMMER. I know the Bimmer is the best drivers car outta the lot in dry weather since most of it's power goes to the rear. It almost is like a RWD car. I drove the Audi A4 1.8T and didn't find it all that fun since the car's steering lacked feel. Also, the car understeers the most outta these three cars.

In wet or snowy weather, I found the Subaru to be the best. I drove all three cars a few days apart (04' Legacy GT not the new one, friend's 02' A4 1.8T and uncle's 03' 330xi) so the conditions were almost the same. The understeer characteristic in the Audi was amplified even furthur due to the snow so I automatically didn't like it. The Bimmer seem to oversteer everytime I turned and even touched the gas (I liked at first but became annoying when it happened when its not wanted). The Subaru was the most balanced in the snow. It was the most neutral in regular driving and leaned more towards understeer at the limit but can over steer with the Fient steering technique.

I didn't really understand you last question but I think you were asking which models of all three cars I was comparing. Well, for Subaru, it was the Legacy GT. It has the 2.5 H-4 turbo with 250hp. The Audi was the A4 3.0 Quattro which has 220hp from the 3.0L V-6. The BMW was the 330xi with the 3.0L I-6 with 225hp.

I will admit, even though the Legacy has more power, I think the BMW has the best engine with the Subaru a close second. The sound of an inline-6 is incredible and it seems to have power at any rev. It feels really fast. I didn't like the 3.0L V-6 from the Audi because it seemed like a regular V-6 to me. Sure its extremely efficient and moderatly powerful but isn't different like Subaru's horizontally opposed motor and BMW's inline motor.

Overall, I would say that the Subaru was the best since it was good in the dry and amazing in the wet. Thats the best I could do to defend my statement and I still stand by it.

I'll agree with the Subaru being great in the snow, the traction and neutrality of my Forrester is really quite good, but it only has 165 hp and the engine seems to be kind of fragile after having put it through it's paces on more than a few occasions. It feels like it's really down on power and doesn't like to rev past 4800.

I wouldn't buy another Subaru for this reason alone, but the sound system sucks too... and I want something more refined and faster to be honest, with better resale. I don't even like the Lagacy but How fast is it?

Its the fastest in its class. How does 0-60 in 5.8seconds and 250hp sound? A Legacy STI is also coming out soon in Japan but I don't know about North America. It will have the 300hp motor from the Impreza STI. And and optional MacIntosh sound system is supposed to be really good in the new Legacy.

But the 330 performs better..... 8)
