I don't care how fast the SL55 is around a track I just love the exhaust note.

IIRC it weighs a shit load less than the CLK-DTM, that means it can go around the corners alot faster, and accelerate a lil bit easier.

Well didn't this thread backfire
I must say i can't really see the point of this comparison. As just_me said, the truest comparison should be between the M6 vs SL55 / 65.
Also, CSedl87, how can the CSL weigh a 'shit load' less than the CLK DTM. I don't disbelieve you, but could you post some info please. That benz was designed purely with track speed in mind and it's a bit confusing that the CSL happens to be faster...

Beemer, BEemer BEEmer BEEMer BEEMEr BEEMER 8)
I"m impressed with this comparison. Shows alot of promise for the M6 and alot of capability in the M5. If it came in 1 second slower than the SL55 despite having a massive torque deficit, in both numbers and accessibility, (700@2160 vs 520@6100) i would say they are dead even, and the M6 will blow the Merc out of the water

M3 CSL Curb Weight:
3050 lb/ 1383 Kg
CLK DTM AMG Curb Weight:
3850 lb/ 1746 Kg
At least on the scale, it's still a Benz.

An extra 350kgs?! Where did it come from? Superchargers don't add that much weight? Infact i thought the CLK had a more spartan interior than the CSL? How do they justify the car if it is also 3 times the price?
I respect Benz's attempt here, they are taking an innovative path with weight reduction and creating a track-orientated car, however it doesn't seem to have come off to successfully this time?

My guess is because its supercharged which produces a lot of torque compared to the power output this means they have to beef all the whole drive train to cope with it all - plus mercedes general policy when it comes to weight - they dont care

It`s really not that impressive, as others said, M6 will slaughter the sl55 which is his real competitor.
And well as is the case with the CLK DTM, 8.12 is a good time but not for a
€ 124236, 476 bhp, 700 NM two seater compared to a sedan.
