It makes Subaru look bad but because of how copyright law works they have to defend it or loose it. I'd still get a STi if one presented itself at a price point similar to what I got my Evo for.

I might scuttle my plans for a 320d and go for the "fugly" 2006 STi.

For my part I'd boycott anyone who'd try to closedown JW.

The devil is in the details.

I get my audacity to promote a boycott of Subaru because unlike Subaru, GM was "all bark and no bite" in my case.

They backed down as soon as the pro-bono attorneys showed up in my camp and dared GM to make a move.

In this case Subaru and their legal team is actually following through and taking on "the little" guy.

I wonder if GM is lending their lawyers to their bastard child company Subaru...

Well, BMWM5.com has been moved to M5Board for the same reason, so I don't see any "wrong" in Subaru, they are just protecting their brandname and assets. Preventing ppl from profiting (by selling other stuff) using their logo and slogans.....

Try register PepsiRocks and sell ur own stuff and I am sure u will get the same legal letter =P~

If this paranoia with enforcing intellectual ownership laws continues, you could soon be facing a lawsuit because you speak the product name in public without a disclosure - or wear a T-Shirt etc.

The intent of the law was to prevent intellectual property THEFT. So what should happen is the company should have a clear responsibilty to PROVE that the user of the name is profitting from it's use BEFORE they can pursue them.

I'm surprised more car companies don't have something like that, where the community and company co-operate together. If such a car company did that, and offered certain 'perks' (even if for a yearly subscription) such as something for near-by dealers, upcoming products, car help, etc, it would make me want to buy that car over the closest competitor b/c of the community feel and and that they care. I love(d) subaru's, but this, this shows that all they want is your money, and to fuck off.

It goes even a step further with the all the Corvette forums - none of them are "official" or "endirsed" by GM - they are simply accepted as a by produt of the very powerful communities that throw their money at GM to the tune of 30,000+ cars a year - for the last 50 years.

In this case, it is an example of ho GM "get it" - they have to still "get" the meaning behind customer service..

Well every story has 2 sides and I doubt Subaru just decided to do this out of the blue, there are plenty of websites that use the words WRX or STI and they have no problem with. Im guessing someone on that site said or did something that brought this about.

And if u decide not to buy a car based on something like this :roll:

While I understand the views of the forum members, it is not difficult to resolve the situation.

On the other forum I use in relation to my Ford Fiesta we contacted the Ford Accredited Media Partnership. After they checked the site, they approved various things and asked to change some minor aspects.

They currently browse the forums every so often, further the forum gets all the press release photos and news of all the upcoming cars at the same time the press do.

It is a shame that in this case Subaru did not offer a similar course of action.

I'm scratching my head on this one too. Ford doesn't do this to the Mustang sites, not that I'm aware of anyways. I'm sure there are certain rules that these sites must adhere to legally, but I can show you guys perhaps dozens upon dozens of sites that prominently show the 'Running Horse' or 'Cobra' snake emblems that identify these products. And the Mustang, as well as the Corvette are icons and have a deep heritage with their companies.
