There are a few questionable suggestions and falsities in this thread. -Sorry i must correct

Hope I don't appear too biased
Audiobahn - chrome plated, flashy, garbage. Definately NOT the way to go for sound quality.

i have a 250W ppi amp running a 10' sony xplod in a sealed box
|
That's a good amp, but don't be surprised when that sub fails or dies suddenly. I'm only warning you, not knocking you. So treat it nicely

. Sony car audio is not what the name lives up to unfortunatly. Sony amps are pretty bad; Subs are better than their amps... but have a high death rate which is sad.

f u're doing something crazy like that dont forget capacitors if u want long playing hard hitting bass!
|
I'd really hate to say it, but you are so wrong it's not even funny. Capacitors can never be used to replace high output alternators and batteries. Power doesn't grow on trees; a capacitor only stores energy and releases this energy very quickly when needed to ease the alternator on a sudden strain. (it stabalizes the voltage system) Remember, a capacitor has to charge as well, so that in essence is like adding another amp to your system. Imagine that on an underachieving alternator. Capacitors are NOT the answers people! This can't be stressed enough. Capacitors work best for minor electrical problems such as headlights dimming slightly for a very brief time.

If you wanted earth shattering bass I would say get a JL W7 but you said clear bass so defiantely go with infinity
|
JL Audio makes some good stuff, but the W7's are a bit pricey. The reason they cost so much is because they have a few custom parts. A comparable sub is actually an Image Dynamics one. It's usually about $400 or so; sorry i can't remember the model

ops:
Clear bass - Infinity ... eh... it's kind of up in the air there. The Infinity Perfect's are accurate subs, very accurate -I know, I have one. But also, they aren't loud enough at times honestly. A true clear sounding sub would be the Elemental Designs A-Series. Those blow Perfects away in every aspect.
Infinity Perfect component sets are good, but personally I believe CDT's are much better then followed by Dyn-Audio. Focal is under Dyn-Audio sound quality wise, but my complaint mostly is Focal's tweeters. They're too harsh for my tastes which goes the same for MB Quart.

its the volume of air in the box that determines how it hits and how it is sealed.
|
Well, it's the box design that determines its output. The volume of the inside will determine how much excursion the speaker has. So, in actuality, you would want a larger than recommended box if you are underpowering the sub by a good percent. So if you are overpowering a sub by a good bit (considering it isn't cooking the voice coils), you would want a box that limits the excursion enough to prevent damage to the speaker.
Good sound quality subs would include:
Image Dynamics
Elemental Designs
Resonant Engineering
Diamond Audio
Focal
MMats
Adire Audio
JL Audio (upper levels)
Amps:
Zapco (superb amps)
McIntosh (overthetop expensive)
Sinfoni
Xtant
Orion
Brax
Component sets:
Adire Audio (Koda's)
CDT
Focal
JL Audio
Infinity (Perfects)
Dyn-Audio
Rainbow
That's all I feel like saying for now
I'll say the headunits I'd consider if someone wants to know.
I mean no offence to anyone; this is my hobby and it's something I can't seem to want to know enough about.
