Oooh, don't know that Zippo. I know Ford do the same trick. For example the new Focus St has a 'duratec'. Odd seeing as it is a volvo engine lol

The A4 is a step down in terms of size, so we will have to put up with the leg room. We will have a looks at a few dealers to get a feel for the cars.

Should be fun test driving!

I found leg room a major problem - sitting behind a six-footer, me at 5'11" was cramped!

The A4 is terrible in that respect, though if the seat backs have been scupted in this recent face-lift, then the problem should be minimised.

Haha, Alfa warranties are worth their weight in gold!

I only notice the black Audi being the old version last night lol, but it is so damn mean! We are going to look for a car with slightly less miles than the silver one. We would only get the face lift version (mum is one of those we must have the latest sitting on the drive :roll: lol)

Anyway, we have a month before our money is released from the markets, so plenty of time to look and test drive various cars. We are certainly not going to get pushed into that supposed 'dream car'.

Sounds like you're approaching this very sensibly! I know what you mean about wanting to know everything about the car before you walk into the dealership, it's amazing how little some salespeople know about the products they are selling. Of course, they'll tell you anything to get you to buy from them.

One notable exception, a car supermarket place I went to in Exeter, I was looking at a Probe V6 (it was a long time ago, ok?) the salesman was very honest and steered me away from the car due to it's crap MPG. Tried to then sell me a 620Ti but there ya go lol.

that is bad news about the saab. but are you sure it's not due to sludging? we have a 9-5 and it had the same problem, total engine/turbo rebuild at 55,000 miles (just after the warranty ended) it turns out that there is a problem 2.3 turbo engine and they extended the warranty to 100,00 miles? check out the saab website and ask the dealer. at least you could have it fixed at no charge and get some money back. good luck!

Sad to hear about the Saab! Speaking of which, ours also failed today. The engine wouldn't crank. I only heard a clicking sound and all electrics were flickering on the same frequency. I'm guessing it's just the battery so that will be fixed soon.

Going from a 9-5 to an A4 is big step backwards considering rear legroom. At least that's my experience. It's really cramped on the back seats of an A4 IMO. That's no problem if small kids are sitting there. But it isn't that suited for big adults. Maybe you should check out for a slightly taller but also older car to keep within the budget and keeping sufficient rear legroom?

Wuttput, I have just seen you on Saabcentral. I joined to ask about my problems. They seem to think that it may not be as serious as was first told. So I am taking it to a different garage for a second opinion. Unfortunately, they may have just have been stringing us along. So we will put it through a service soon and see what happens.

HOWEVER, regardless of the outcome, we have decided to sell. Time to move on and all that. We also have a better change of getting a bit more money for the car if it is in fact working fine!

Thx for the good explaination. Allways cool to learn a little more about the technical stuff. I was wondering about that for a while now. So basically a turbocharged engine can't be using FSI technology. I also thought that the 1.6FSI wasn't really using FSI and that's not a turbocharged car.

Btw, John I highly recommend the A6. Have a look at it!! It's got a huge boot and more space then a 95 in the back. The only thing is the long wait if you order it at a dealer. We had to wait 7 months for ours.

7 months! :shock: Feck me. We will certainly look. I think Audi still do the 24hr test drives!! Hummm, perhaps I could live the RS4 for a day! haha
