Considering the Viper just beat the GT-R by about 7 seconds on a 4.2 miles course (among other recent trouncings), I don't know who can still believe that 7:2X time that's being thrown around for a stock GT-R at the Ring.

Don't get me wrong, I actually really like the car, but they should let it stand on its own merits instead of exaggerations. Market it as a great GT car like the 599GTB, but cheaper, instead of the fastest thing on the track.

If you look at Motor Trend's handling test, the little Cobalt SS had another good outing in that it beat both the Mini and RX8 around Laguna Seca. More importantly, it ran a nearly identical time to the Evo MR (less than half a tenth different.) I declare the current Cobalt SS the most underrated performance bargain on the market today.

And yea, Gray already explained how C&D chooses their lightning lap cars. I do like the test though: no nonsense, just a lap time.
