"Background.
Lamborghini is an Italian corporation formed in 1963 to produce high-performance sports cars. This application concerns the Lamborghini Murcielago which was developed in the mid 1990s and is now scheduled to continue in production until 2009. Originally, Lamborghini planned to begin selling the Murcielago in 1999 and to end production before September 2006. Because of financial hardship and a change in corporate ownership, the petitioner did not begin sales of Murcielago until the very end of 2001, and is now forced to extend the product cycle of this vehicle.

Lamborghini has experienced financial problems for several years. Over the last 4 years (2001–2004), the company lost more than 180 million dollars. Lamborghini claims this economic hardship precluded the timely development of a new vehicle that could comply with advanced air bag requirements. With respect to the Murcielago, Lamborghini also has been unable to overcome a number of engineering problems associated with installing advanced air bags in the current vehicle configuration. If the exemption is not granted, the Murcielago model cannot be sold in the U.S. during the period 2006–2009, which petitioner stated could further delay the introduction of a fully compliant vehicle. Lamborghini thus asks for a temporary exemption from the advanced air bag requirements for the Murcielago until it is replaced by a brand new vehicle in 2009."

Former RUN-DMC star-turned-minister REV RUN has treated himself to a brand new Lamborghini for his 42nd birthday. The one-time rapper, real name Joseph Simmons, splashed out on the sports car and then had to explain to his kids that the purchase wasn't part of a mid-life crisis. He says, "A mid-life crisis in my mind is me trying to battle (top rap star) Young Jeezy on the mike. Not me buying a beautiful car that I can afford."

Fire has caused around $200,000 damage to a Lamborghini in a Melbourne car park.

Firefighters were called to the car park in Spring Street about 1:15pm AEST, finding the car alight.

No other vehicles have been damaged but work is continuing to clear smoke from the car park.

The blaze is not suspicious.

Property seized from five convicted drug dealers could mean millions for Upstate law enforcement.

As part of their sentencing, a federal judge ordered the drug dealers to give up $36 million in goods.

One of the men, Tremayne Graham, was arrested in 2004. He was part of a drug ring that flooded Greenville with cocaine.

Federal prosecutors said that they have claimed some of the property seized from Graham and the other four men including a 2003 Lamborghini, a tour bus and an assortment of jewelry.

The property will be sold at an auction. All proceeds will go to local and federal law enforcement agencies, but prosecutors do not expect to collect all $36 million.

A LAMBORGHINI caught fire in a central Melbourne carpark, sparking the evacuation of a city apartment building.

The blaze destroyed the motor of the luxury car and caused between $100,000-$200,000 damage, firefighters say.
Fire crews were called to the underground carpark of 99 Spring Street about 1pm yesterday.

Sprinklers had already doused the blaze.

Residents of the building above, including the car's owner, were evacuated.

Metropolitan Fire Brigade senior station officer Tony Cowling said the owner had jump-started the car earlier in the day and the blaze was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

He said the car was worth about half a million dollars but damage was limited.

"It could have been a lot worse, but the sprinkler did a good job," Mr Cowling said.

"People were evacuated but the fire was confined to the motor area of the very expensive car."

A police spokeswoman said officers would not be investigating.

Today, another chapter in Lamborghini’s history was written, with a ceremony to announce a stamp dedicated to the Lamborghini Miura, featuring a reproduction of the distinctive Sant’ Agata Bolognese mark: the raging bull on a black background.

The announcement ceremony was hosted by Lamborghini’s President and Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann, in the presence of the Director of the Poste Italiane and other local dignitaries and the public. The attendees also enjoyed an opportunity to visit the factory and the museum and received a special edition ‘first day cover’.

The public can also obtain the first day cover, which comes with a booklet introducing the stamp and the legendary Lamborghini story, signed by Stephan Winkelmann.

The stamp is available to the general public from today, and is a formal recognition of Automobili Lamborghini by the Poste Italiane. The Lamborghini stamp belongs to the ‘Made In Italy’ series with an anticipated production of around 3,500,000 stamps.

In a recent interview with Stephan Winkelmann some interesting news became obvious. Naturally he wouldn't talk about any new models that are being worked on at Sant'Agata, but what he did state was that there will be no Gallardo Spyder Superleggera. According the Mr Winkelmann the Superleggera philosophy isn't right for the open version of the Gallardo.

Note that a production of 350 units for the Gallardo Superleggera were projected for 2007, and over 400 have already been sold, the factory even increased it's production to keep up with the ever growing demand. At this moment the orders at Automobili Lamborghini SpA have reached a level that was never seen before, a new Bull will take about 18 months to be delivered to it's new owner, and these owners are currently ordering some very different colors from, let's say ten years ago.

Right now black is the most popular color on a new Lamborghini, together with the multitude of grey shades that are also available, yellow is a close second, but the third choice of color is a surprise : white and Balloon White. That's right, this shade is currently holding the third position in the popularity of colors, I guess we're back in the days of the Countach 5-Liter, when a white over white leather Countach was very popular.

Stephan Winkelmann again stated that Automobili Lamborghini SpA will show a new model or evolution of an existing model, every year, this is his promise to the loyal customer base that was formed over the years.

Things are looking better and better for Automobili Lamborghini SpA, so let's hope we'll be seeing some unexpected models on their show stand soon ...
