...well, such an engine bench test is probably one of the best places to work, everyday a new challenge and very, very interesting. such a test rig is more or less completely computerized nowadays and the data is networked worldwide, so with the proper password I can check the final figures from a test rig which is located somewhere around the world from my working place in stuttgart. the test rig itself consists of a an engine carrier which normally is a proprietary development and it holds the engine and gear box and is connected to a eddy-current brake that simulates the load. as you can imagine there`s mainly measuring equipment all around the rig provided from a Austrian company named AVL, and everybody who`s into automotive engineering knows AVL, at Bosch we also had all the equipment from AVL.
It`d be way too difficult to explain all the measurements now but as you can imagine mainly power, consumption, emissions, engine noises... are measured by dozens of sensors.
All the data is transfered to a control panel from where the whole system is controlled.
One rig is operated by one or two mechanics and an engineer.
Just some firgures: such a prototype engine is worth ~150k € and even the smaller parts, e.g. a fuel injector is worth 8k €

- fire brigade Cayenne -

the local fire brigade of german city Bietigheim-Bissingen ordered a Porsche Cayenne as a command car last summer and it`d been delivered today after a aftermarket company installed all the parts that were required: flashing blue lights on the roof, radiator grill and deck lid, siren, external loudspeaker, a respirator, a 12kg fire extinguisher, flash-, and searchlights, a radio unit, mobile phone and a additional battery.

...sorry Chingachgook, everything i know about that topic`s been mentioned somewhere in the "Porsche news" only news are that WR clocked a 7:32 with the CGT, thats 5sec. faster than the best time during testing and that there won`t be any further runs with the CGT this year...

finally i`m back at the place to be, Porsche Leipzig...

we`ve spent the whole day at production line of the 955, because we`ve to learn something about a certain problem with a part of the drive train...
there`ve been some minor problems with reliability during stress testing and maybe it needs to be changed. tomorrow our 955 prototype`ll arrive via plane at leipzig airport and will be immediately transferred to the plant, so spy photographer, get in position...j/k, of course it looks like a std. 955TT only with slightely different exhaust pipes...
and tomorrow i`ll also have the possibility to attend the whole production process of a CGT with the prod.number 0026, anyone here who`ll get that car...???

i´ve to leave now but maybe i´ll post a detailed review at weekend, there`d be so much to tell...

- BREAKING news -

...although i´m already back home, i ´ll be heading back to the EZW tomorrow for a special experience:
there`s a good chance that i´ll be able to test drive a GT3 RS around weissach`s proving grounds...
i think it`s manageable to set up a full driving report for you guys untill late saturday evening, because on dec. 14th i won`t have that much time

so i´ll keep you up to date...

Ah BTW, even if the red decals are more classic maybe, I prefer the blue version
