lol, Alonso sure better live up to the dreams of all those people, they're really putting a lot of pressure on him now.

I think the ITV guys said it well, that Alonso might be a mutliple champion, but probably won't be near the 7 titles of Schumacher. Give Kimi a more reliable car and he could easily become champion, as well. If Renault, McLaren, and Ferrari are all at the top of their games next year, it could really be a sweet battle between MS, Kimi, and Alonso

Sato facing Shanghai axe

Anthony Davidson is reportedly 'on standby' in case Takuma Sato is put on the BAR-Honda bench for the season ending Chinese GP. Although the Brackley based team - already facing a backlash in Japan after dumping the Japanese driver for 2006 - named Sato in Monday's pre-race preview, British newspapers reckon team chiefs are considering putting Davidson in the '007' car for Sunday's Shanghai race.

The reports hint that BAR and Honda executives are furious about 28-year-old Sato's disastrous driving at Suzuka, which followed another recent FIA stewards' penalty involving Michael Schumacher at Spa.

Team test driver Anthony Davidson, meanwhile, has been overlooked for the 2006 race ride and is on a desperate push to prove he is worthy of the grid. His links with both Jordan and the unnamed eleventh team for next year are both as yet far from concrete.

"I have never been more ready," the 26-year-old Englishman told the 'Times' on Monday. "My problem is that people doubt whether I can race. I am anxious to get one last chance before this season is over."

FIA to reveal downforce plans

F1's governing body will reveal in Shanghai this weekend a plan about how to increase overtaking. In a Q&A with the British 'Guardian' newspaper, Max Mosley - the FIA president - admitted that making the racing better is more complex than simply reducing downforce and increasing tyre grip.

He said: ''Simulations have shown that the reduction in downforce would have to be so great that the cars would be slower than GP2 or formula three. But we think we now have the answer to this problem.''

There is considerable speculation as to what the FIA plan to do about the question of aerodynamics, downforce and enhanced racing, particularly as - Suzuka aside - the 2005 changes appear to have made it more difficult for a car to follow and overtake its rival.

The FIA's earlier '90 per cent' downforce reduction plan is now believed to be on the scrapheap, the latest idea being to create downforce parity by imposing 'limits'.

Mosley believes a 'x newton' limit per car would force teams to focus on limiting drag rather than producing downforce.

setting a limit is a decent idea for evening out the teams, actually. if the teams could then focus on reducing drag alone, that could hopefully smooth out the "dirty" air problem they currently have

the dirty air isnt caused by only parasitic drag...

there is less air pressure to deal with, and the air displaced by the F1 cars is swirling out and away largely.

i dont see a d/f limit as a great idea... but i wouldn't mind at least 1 season with it to see what happens

regardless of the new wings, this is good news right here:

2007 in conjunction with a return to wider wheels and slick tyres

If the new wings will improve overtaking and drafting conditions, i'm all for it, even if it will look a bit odd at first.

no1 would think of this voluntarily if it involved only their car, cos it gives their opponents an advantage...what ronin means i think, is that the teams themselves should be more creative in finding ways to overtake etc...and yes chapman was 1 of the geniuses of the history of cars...

Former Grand Prix driver Aguri Suzuki has revealed that he is the man behind the much-talked-about, Honda-linked, 11th team. Suzuki has lodged an application for the team to compete in the 2006 world championship and is in driver talks with Takuma Sato.

However, Suzuki is likely to have to wait until December to find out whether his application is accepted and even then he admitted he will face a race against time to get on the grid next season.

Speaking at a press conference at Honda’s Welcome Plaza on Tuesday, Suzuki confirmed that a deal was in place to use the Japanese company’s V8 engines next year and that he had an offer from Bridgestone to supply tyres.

The new team, expected to be called Super Aguri F1 in line with Suzuki’s other motorsport projects, will work out of the former Arrows factory in Oxfordshire, England, where their Aguri chassis will be built. Their headquarters will remain in Tokyo.

Suzuki said he is in negotiations with former BAR driver Sato to front the team, and admitted that although his plans for his Formula One project had begun in February, they only really took off in September after the Japanese star was dropped by the Honda-owned team for the 2006 season.

The exact level of Honda’s involvement remains unclear, though Suzuki hinted that large parts of the project hinge on their assistance. There had been speculation that the new team would use customer parts from BAR, but such an arrangement would be far from straightforward under current Formula One regulations, which require all teams to build their own chassis.

Speaking earlier this week, BAR CEO Nick Fry described his team as the ‘supporting act, rather than the leaders’ in the Suzuki project, but suggested they were doing all they can to assist in readying it to race next year.

“Starting a new Formula One team is a huge undertaking,” he said. “It requires the hiring of a lot of people, detailed logistics and the purchase of a large amount of equipment some of which has long lead times. What we are doing with the new team at the moment is working through exactly what needs to be done between now and the beginning of next season.”

Assuming Suzuki’s championship entry is accepted by the FIA, he is expected to make an official presentation of his new team sometime early in 2006.

im not sure if F1 needs another bottom-feeder team.... it'll be interesting if Sato can resurect a horrible season for another drive for this team tho.

Fuck! I know Adrian Newy wanted a new challenge but this just sucks. I hope Ron Dennis had done enough to keep the transition smooth.
