and goddamn that was the most fun I've ever had watching a race...thank god for rain... :good:
We missed so much good footage including Al0nso hitting the wall!!! There was also a point when Kimi also passed Heikki but it was shown for a split-second. I think this is one of the best races this season (apart from the opening LAPS behind the safety car). The safety car robbed us of an exciting start. Anyway, safety first! Excellent overtake by Kimi on Coulthard!

So let's put things into perspective:
Massa is officially out of the Drivers Championship. Regardless, he has mentioned that he is willing to support Raikkonen. As for the Finn, to win the championship, Hamilton should not score more than 3 points in the upcoming Chinese GP to remain in the contention - and that's assuming he wins next weekend. The worst result he can get is 2nd (8pts) with Hamilton at most in 8th (1pt). Things are better for Al0nso since the least he needs is 2pts and Hamilton a DNF.

Lewis Hamilton says he does not want Fernando Alonso to remain his team-mate next year.

The British rookie, who shares the front row with his McLaren colleague and championship rival in Japan, capped off a weekend of verbal assaults against the Spaniard by telling British newspapers that his bosses should only keep loyal drivers on board.

Asked directly if he would like Alonso, who is under contract also for 2008, to occupy the sister McLaren next year, 22-year-old Hamilton said at Fuji Speedway: "No, I don't.

"I mean, if the team wants to keep him they keep him, but I'm here to stay as long as they want me.

"This season has helped reconfirm in my mind where I want to be, where I want to live out my career, and that is here. I'm really happy and comfortable here.

"It's up to the team. They've got to be smart and think about it: I know they've got politics and sponsors and all that sort of stuff, but they've got to do what's right, and I'm sure they will.

"I don't know who else would slip in here, but I'd much rather it were Fernando in a Ferrari and me in a McLaren."

Team boss Ron Dennis insists that he will only review the drivers' contractual situations after the last race of the season next month.

"There is at this stage nobody engaged in any dialogue whatsoever," he said.

Hamilton also said he fears a Schumacher or Senna-style collision with Alonso as their title battle whittles down to a three-race duel.

"I think it will be interesting to see whether Fernando will have the thing Michael Schumacher had, where he'll do anything – anything – ie. he doesn't care whether he runs himself or anyone else off the road," he told the British Sunday newspapers.

"Will he break under pressure? We'll see. It will ruin his reputation more than mine, because I'd never do that. I want to win this fair and square."

uhh, what a race
19 laps behind the SC (from the start!) or more..? - i was pretty sure they'd stop it.
then some great moments from Kub and that stupid decision by stewards to penalize him after incident with Ham (i'd say that was just racing..).
bad luck for Hei, also too bad fot Vet and Web :/
and finally two great fights on the last lap (Kov-Rai and Kub-Mas)!

Great driving by both drivers I must say, but Felipe seems to have the upper hand the entire time.

Any chance anyone got the Alonso crash vid?

What do you think about the behaviour of LH behind the SC, that provoked the crash between Vettel and Webber? What he did is illegal and he should be punished according to the rules.

well .. the way i see it is like .... you can slow down to whatever speed you want .. but you cantNOT brake like a damn fool messing up eveyone ..

last year at fbmw world final .. it was a rolling start . .the guy leading the pack ... braked his fucking guts out just when he was about to reach the start line ... all the guys were flat out .... all but 5 cars didnt collide :\ .... he went round to win the race only to be striped of his win after the race ..... the guy who came second then went on to test BMW F1 ....

so the point is ... what he did was wrong .. ....

Forgot to mention that for the first time this season, the MP4-22 McLaren car didn't finish the race. It would have been the first time for a perfect finish by any Constructor.

Vettel receives penalty in the next race:
Stewards’ at the Japanese Grand Prix have this evening handed Sebastian Vettel a penalty that he will have to carry on to next weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, AFP France is reporting.

The Toro Rosso racer ran into the back of second placed Mark Webber whist running behind the safety car this afternoon at Fuji Speedway. The incident eliminated both himself and Webber from the rain-hit race.

Vettel will take a ten position penalty into qualifying next Saturday in Shanghai and will therefore almost certainly start at the back of the field.

Vettel, distraught after returning to the Toro Rosso pit, said he took his eyes off the action when he noticed Lewis Hamilton heating his brakes.

"By the time I looked forward again, I was already in the back of Mark's car and I think he had also reacted to Lewis," the German said. "I apologise now to Mark because I ruined both our races."
Spyker earns its first point after penalized Liuzzi
The Spyker Ferrari team has been awarded its first-ever World Championship point after the FIA Stewards at Fuji Speedway decided that Toro Rosso's Tonio Liuzzi had overtaken Adrian Sutil under a yellow flag on lap 55 of today's Japanese Grand Prix.

Liuzzi has been handed a 25 second penalty, which promotes Sutil to eighth overall, the final points scoring position. Toro Rosso has decided to appeal the stewards ruling.

Funnily they punish Vettel when was Hamilton who provoked the whole incident. They also punished Kubica for touching Hamilton when that was clearly a race incident. The FIA and Ecclestone knew before the first race who had to win the Championship.

What an unusual "race". It started off pretty boring but ended up to be pretty interesting. Loads of crashes, penalties and position changes. It was really nice to see people like Vettel, Sutil and some others up in the points and putting on a show for once. I was getting tired of watching the same people win.

It took 7 hours before Hamilton was officially declared the winner...
According to a Spanish newspaper, Lewis Hamilton's crucial Japanese Grand Prix win was for seven hours in doubt on Sunday evening.

Marca claims that stewards at Fuji Speedway deliberated for seven hours and well into nightfall before officialising the result, after investigating the British rookie's 'dangerous braking manoeuvres' while he led the field behind the safety car.

Sebastian Vettel, penalised ten grid places for the upcoming Shanghai round for crashing into Mark Webber, had in a meeting with the stewards blamed Hamilton for the incident.

"I saw Lewis going really slowly, I don't know why, but I thought he had a problem.

By the time I looked forward again, I was already in the back of Mark's car and I think he had also reacted to Lewis," the German rookie had told the press.

Marca said Hamilton was also summoned to the stewards' room, but no penalty was ultimately applied.
^ I doubt this story though since I can't find any other credible source. It seems that this story is only published in Spanish newspapers. I could only wonder why.

Ron Dennis denies foul play
Ron Dennis has denied that there was any foul play from McLaren in Sunday's Japanese GP after Fernando Alonso's pit stop saw him thrown into the midst of traffic while Lewis Hamilton's stop was near-perfect.

Alonso came in for his first pit stop on Lap 27 while running in second place but when the McLaren driver came out he found himself stuck at the back of a battle raging between four slower drivers and down in eighth place.

However, when his team-mate Lewis Hamilton pitted a lap later, the same fate did not befall the McLaren rookie who got out ahead of that battle.

This raised some eyebrows the P-F1 office, although Dennis has subsequently denied there was any foul play involved.

"There was nothing wrong with the stop, it was just very long because we put fuel for the end of the race and he came out between three or four slow cars which hampered his progress through the field," said the McLaren team boss.

"Lewis had the benefit of that extra bit of distance which meant that when he stopped, he came out in front of that pack.

"The stopping point was determined by the range of fuel not a switch in the strategy.

"We went as far as we could, we conserved a lot of fuel behind the Safety Car and we were very nervous about the Safety Car being deployed at a time when we were vulnerable to losing the race because of it."

As for Alonso's heavy shunt that put him out of the race, Dennis believes it may have been the result of the damage Alonso's car suffered when he was hit by Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel seven laps earlier.

"Once his car had been damaged, it was very difficult for him to drive and keep the pace but he did a good job," said Dennis.

"And it just got away from him when the water got a little heavier, so it's just one of those things."

Hamilton went on to win the race and now holds a 12-point advantage over his team-mate with two races remaining on this year's calendar.
Surprisingly, I haven't really heard any 'cries' from Al0nso regarding the race.
Alonso was also asked about Hamilton's verbal assaults in Japan last weekend, in which the championship leader said he would be happier if he gets a new team-mate for 2008.

"Lately he talks more about me than anything else," Alonso replied, "but I am not going to say anything about it.

"What he or anyone says doesn't affect me, especially once I have closed the visor."

"It's not over because mathematically it's not over. But I need a very unlucky weekend for him to have a chance to win," he said.

"If it's a normal race, it's over.

"I'm not throwing in the towel but unless Hamilton retires, we have to be realistic and see that it's very difficult to recover six points per race.

"It means winning the two remaining races and him finishing fifth or sixth, so realistically it's very complicated and we'll need a retirement from him.

"He hasn't had any this year but maybe it will come in the last two races.

"We have to try to win both races, now more than ever, and maybe now there is less pressure because we only need to race and wait for a miracle.

"So maybe I can race a bit more relaxed now. But I'll keep fighting because, as last year showed, anything can happen."
