i do have a question for you though. When you say the car is registered in Perth, u mean Perth in Australia right? We are a right hand drive car country, and your pic is of a left hand drive car. you have directly fudged our requests to see some proof, so if you want to just kick it in this community the post something to back your claims, or come clean.

BTW 1) the license plate 'april' is available in WA (i checked ).
2) why are you asking about inexpensive mods to an m3 man? its a $150,000 dollar car, a couple of thou $$ should not be a biggie, right?

To answer the 50KW question....I guess the only way is to slap on a supercharger (provided if u really have a M3). So no cheap way around (or u should really define ur "without spending alot of money" means.

50kW question aside, I really think u should give some proof before bragging and having such a big a** sig. We are not jerks, but we do hate liars with alot of bullsh*t.

i haven't seen ya M3 around.

if you want to increase 50kw, i would be looking at cams.. and EVEN HIGHER compression ratio, exhaust, intake, and possibley a peformance chip, but i cannot see 50kw, unless you get it supercharged, and you would have to get that imported from germany, and im not sure who could fit it, if you live in perth (australia) you would probley have to get it sent to sydney.

Enough, it's time for a reality check. Those things should come standard on an M model. The M is, or at least was, their designation for track ready models. A premium for a different steering wheel fabric? A premium for more direct steering-at the very least that should come standard.


I think the E46M is one of the least inspiring 40k+ machines on the road today. It sounds coarse, feels numb and heavy, cost a fortune, and doesn't look much different from all the other base model BMWs, yet people buy them anyway. Now apparently BMW is adding the things they took out of the current car, which were inseparable from the character of the previous models, back in as costly 'options' on top of the already expensive 'M' option.

Remember the e36? The M model came stripped and the luxury package was an option. That seemed reasonable because things like wood, leather, auto climate control, power seats all add cost. I don't see how taking those things out of the standard E46 model should drive up the price.


Is it me or does it seem like BMW is gouging the very segment of the market that supported the M division when it use to build nothing but hard edged cars? That's gratitude, nice company.

Tomerville, it's prolly the SMGII coz BMW will not invest alll the money in new machinaries to make the M3 having the SMGIII, so all they change prolly is the shifting program.

If u want SMGIII, get the new M5

ccarlisi, i respect your opinion on the m3. I just tend to differ a little... personally, i think the engine note is simply beautiful, and its handling to be superb.
I do agree however, that it is odd that some very simple aspects such as steering ratio can be improved on a car that is supposedly at it's limits. regardless, it remains one of my favourite cars ever and i can't wait to see the new generation
