That's right Beemers used to be "Driver's cars..." - now they are hairdresser and yuppie cars... more suited to posing than performance..
Id love to see a hairdresser turn the DSC off on one of the Roadster bimmers. They become a handfull then. Damn hairdressers, need to stick to boxsters and TTs and leave the Z cars for people who only enjoy a stick that goes into gears not mouths.

the merger WOULD make sence to BMW shareholders in the fact they are investing in BMW is to make MONEY, not to keep the brand image alive.

if you compare AUTOGROUPS, not cingular companies, BMW is relatively small in comparason to other groups like vwag, gm, ford, etc etc. Honda is also a small autogroup, but a bit larger than BMW, with more offshoots.

the merger would work out and create a global competitor that would be able to go against vwag etc etc...

forget what they do, remember they're simply companies, grow or die.

Aquirring Honda wouldn't fit BMW's mission statement, as Honda tries to appeal to everyone, whereas BMW appeals to a specific segment as i have mentioned before.

The shareholders really control most of what happens to the company. they bought into the BMW image more so than the people who buy the cars, and they understand that image quite well. Honda does NOT fit that image.

There is a reason the E65 made it to the market before the E60. Although the E65 was no where near ready to be released but the shareholders wanted the new 7 right away. So BMW gave a perspective release date and the stock soared. in 2002, the E65 rolled into showrooms and because there was no time to R&D the car, it suffered a LOT of problems. Fortunatley those problems have been rectified and the car is more reliable and selling alot better than it's predecessor.

However there weren't really any issues with the E60 upon it's release and it's using alot of the same technology that is in the E65.

probablly false, but who knows... brand image has nothing to do with this really. how exactly does aston martin fit into ford's brand image? or saab with gm?

i know this is a bit biased against honda or BMW, but think of them as two regular companies, providing some product. (branding just precieves quality of a product and create unity among offerings) it does not dictate a company's goals of becomming a global leader..

think of all mergers that have happened in the industry over the years... did all of them follow the respective image of the purchaser's brand identity? i think not.

i'm going to be glad when all this goes back to normal. reading these posts is getting retarded

anyway, to me, there are just too many cons for BMW in this alleged merger for it to be real.

I kinda like the fact that the only brands associated with BMW are Mini and Rolls Royce

personally i like that as well, and the way honda is dealing with their brands, but from a business staindpoint it will make them a huge firce in the industry, more so than any one company could alone.

If there is one car company where brand image matters above all, it would be BMW matey.

Mini?
Rolls-Royce?
BMW?

Are any of them alike? Nope. Nada.

So... where's that perceived sense of unity among offerings then eh?

Doesn't the Rolls Royce Phantom use the 7-series platform, and the interior has deffinate resemblance to the 7-series.

yes, i was talking about across the BMW brand itself, if they merged there would still be BMW offereings and Honda offerings... unity across the line still exists.... wheres your point?
