LOL you better chose another topic to rant against the Cayenne *waiting for st-anger to strike*
well, HIS opinion...i don´t care that much about this any more it´s useless to explain, 99% of those ppl who´re saying the 955 is shit, haven´t driven one, on the other hand EVERYONE who´d driven a 955 had been 100% impressed and simply liked it...

i´d love to invite all of you guys to Leipzig, so that i could give you a "lift" in a 955TT around our test track, and i´m quite sure that afterwards there won´t be so many ppl like SPEEDKILLAR any more...

i know about the performance of the 955 and i´m just smiling about those ppl who are telling shit about it, many of them have the arguments: "Porsche sold out, not a real Porsche, don´t like the looks..." but in fact they think the Cayenne doesn´t perform like a true Porsche, but then you know nothing...

nevertheless, i respect everyone´s opinion .......i LOVE the Cayenne...

st-anger, brembo said you may be able to shine some light...

The 911 Coupe can come with the x51 engine upgrade package bringing the the 0-60 down to 4.4, likewise the turbo has the x50 option taking it down to a time of 3.6 for the 0-60. I looked for more stats as I was trying to rationalize the extra 20k that porsche wants for the stock turbo over the x51 911. The stock turbo has a time of 4.2. I realize you can't base a car on the 0-60 time, I googled for more data but not much other than the 0-60 came up. Is porsche charging 20k more than the x51 for simply the turbo, the name, and .2 seconds performance. Something else must be coming in the deal?

Thanks
sorry for the double post

probably the most important thing about X50/X51: you won´t loose warranty…
you´ll get into serious trouble when there´re some “problems” with e.g. an aftermarket tuning engine, I HIGHLY recommend a factory kit or something from RS-Tuning, but the first choice should be an official Porsche product which is race approved and Porsche is very well known for their very reliable high performance parts…
but back to the main topic…
so there´d be quite a lot to tell, but it´s already a bit late here and i´ve to go to bed so i´ll try to keep it short and simple:

in short the X51 Raises power output from 320 to 345 hp, including modified cylinder heads with widened inlet ports for better load, reworked camshafts with longer valve opening time and 11.5mm valve lift instead of 11mm, reworked exhaust manifolds with wider prfile for better flow, aluminium-intake system with shorter inlet manifold, stiffer valve spring on the suction side, modified bulkhead sheeting for the oil sump, an additional water cooler and a more aggressive ECU software.

X50 raises power output from 420 to 450 hp including modified turbo chargers, intercoolers, ECU and transmission. it´s not that complicated like with the X51, the X50 is using the same M96 engine like in the std. TT but with a different Motronic software, K24 turbos like in the GT2 with a larger cold side compressor compared to std. TT`s K16 turbos, also some enhanced parts are installed e.g. anti-friction bearings…
so turbos, exhaust sys. and exhaust manifold in the GT2 are the same as in the X50, only difference, the GT2 has an additional oil pump installed.
interesting is that the GT2 has the same gear transmission ratio like the std. TT has, despite they´re using different gear boxes, so the Motronic of the GT2 can´t be carried over to a X50 car.
most of the buyers directly order the X50 kit when they buy a 996TT, i´d do the same, but it´s also possible to install it afterwards, but this´ll be kinda expensive, well it depends…
another thing is the changed gear ratio maps, the X50 has a shorter 6th gear, so the top speed isn´t significantly higher than in a std. TT…
under 4sec from 0-60…whishful thinking, this is only possible with a 500-550hp+ car, but the X50 has a remarkable 0-200kmh (125mph) time: 13.1sec !!! there´s a significant boost at around 5500 to 5700rpm and it accelerated way harder at speeds of 110-130mph, some say the X50 and GT2 have the same engine with 470hp with the same performance, that´s more or less an open secret…

so I hope this short explanation helps you out a little, if there´re any questions left, don´t hesitate to ask…

I still don't see why it costs 20k to SUBSTITUTE, NOT ADD a couple parts. It's not like they give you the original turbos, intercoolers, and ecu in a box as a keep sake. An intercooler is basically an intercooler; the price does not materially very with size, and the same is true for turbos.

Even if we assume the original turbo parts are worth nothing, which in itself raises questions about the premium for the tt over the S4, the cost of the parts does not equal anything near 20 grand. Most intercooler cores can be purchased for $300-800. Turbos range from 300 to 1500 for a high end ball bearing unit.

Do you happen to have a price list of the parts? It would be interesting to compare the cost of the individual parts and figure out where all the money is going. As it is now, my guess is the company's bottom line. However, I refuse to believe that a company that charges $735 USD for "footwell lighting" (option XX2) would take advantage of its customers.

Thanks for a very thorough answer. You have made it crystal clear.
One question and I think i know the answer. This site is mistaken on the performance times for this porsche?
http://www.fast-autos.net/porsche/porscheturbo.html
I notice the power to weight does not match up at all for what they have listed.
Thanks again

also
ccarlisi
very good point porsche does seem to be asking alot. I can see paying for the turbo status symbol but 750 for lights does seem strange.
