last weekend a bunch of us went to Tasmania to do a quick lap of the island.

if you've never been there you should check it out, especially if you enjoy driving! it has spectacular scenery, very little traffic, and some of the best roads on the planet.

not long into the first day of this adventure everyone was already convinced that this was the best driving holiday you could ever hope to have.

the attending cars were an eclectic bunch, a Lamborghini Gallardo SE, Ferrari 355 Challenge, Porsche 997 GT3, Honda NSX, BMW M5, BMW 550, Corvette, WRX, Ford Falcon XR8, Jaguar E-Type, and we were joined along the way by an Audi RS4 (or something).

first up, the boys from Adelaide had to travel 800km just to get to the ferry to get there, and the pics from that portion of the journey are online in this gallery here:
http://aussieexotics.com/2007/05/18/...e-to-melbourne

later on the other parts of the adventure will be online, but for now here's some random pics...

(sorry there's so many, i just couldn't pick a few favourites)

Sad to see that 997 GT3 in such poor condition already.. that driver must beat the shit out of it!

actually the car is pristine...

long story short: car is only a few weeks old, he had 3M applied but the guy f*cked it up and he didn't have time to get it re-done professionally, so he fixed it with sticky tape!!

said tonight that when he took it off the car was as if it were brand new (despite a very hard 2,000km of close driving with other cars)

Tassie was by far the best driving roads ive ever driven on anywhere!

Did you drive the road out of queenstown as well while you were there?

yes, even tighter than Gorge Rd. love that rocky ascent looking over waterfalls and foggy mountaintops.

Oh man, I was going to say, such a new car with paint already in that condition!

Great idea of the owner to put some cover up for the long trip.

sadly it's difficult to offer anything above 800px with the mob i host the pics with (smugmug), it's either 800 or full-size, nothing in-between. so what that means is anything of higher resolution i have to manually deal with putting together, supposedly this should change shortly... at the moment i just don't have the time to put up all of my 4,000 odd pics the way i'd like to.

here's a vid compilation of the pics.

---> http://aussieexotics.com/videos/tasm...e-state-10590/

it's a normal "web-size" video, but underneath it is a link to the hi-resolution version, basically dvd quality.

(hi-res requires divX plugin - painless on firefox)

i'm trying out this divX full-screen hi-res stuff, i reckon it's pretty dam cool especially after spending the last couple years watching internet videos at the size of a grainy postage stamp.

the first link will be to a flash version with a link beneath it to a hi-res version, which requires a browser plugin but is worth the couple of clicks.

here's the first couple of test vids, very fast cars doing what they do best, going very fast!

---> Outback drive-bys - one
---> Outback drive-bys - two

it's basically dvd quality, i'm lovin it. lots more updates to come later, until then, here's a bonus clip:
