The latest rumours about the upcoming models :
997 GT3 : 415 Hp,3.8 dry sump,PSM in a "racing" configuration(less intrusive that on the other 997 range),special colours,and optional 380mm PCCB brake disk(front),maybe PDK shiftgear.. due in march/april 2006
997 Turbo: 480-500 HP, due in Germany around June 2006.
997 Turbo S: 510-535 HP, due in Germany earliest one year after 997 Turbo introduction, if the 997 C4/C4S and Turbo are very succesful, later
997 GT2: around 2007, latest rumor indicates even not earlier than 2008.
Rumored power up to 540 HP. Autobild claims even 550+hp.

i have little doubt that GT2 is going to be hovering much closer to 600; more reliable and more efficiant ... and the best possible new car one could by in its price bracket
2007.5 seems a good estimate for the GT2's german release.
i suspect it will be the widest 911 with more emphasis in aerodynamic efficiancy/cooling/downforce. so is suspect 205-210mph may be in order

hmm you might be right but i hope you're not as long as they keep the balance of the cars right, extra power is only better
BTW a Porsche hp has always had a way of being just a tiny bit more powerful than other manufactures' hp's (in other words, porsche often claims lower hp than the cars actually have)

So... when you start saying that the GT3 will have 415... I guess they'll be 400, the 580-500hp of the Turbo will actually be 460hp... with 10 more for the Turbo S... and for the GT2, my guess is 500hp...
|
well, take this into account
the 996 GT3 officially makes 381 bhp at 7400 rpm
the 996 TT makes 420 bhp at 6000 rpm (444 hp Turbo X50)
the 996 GT2 makes 483 bhp at 5700 rpm (over 500 by St-angers telling)
so the roumored engine dynamics dont seem all that far fetched to me

The info is from Rennteam, they also used to be as pessimistic as you, despite that these are their latest hints.
The GT3 was thought to get 400hp flat, but since F430 and others are as good as they are, a power hike seems reasobable.
Where did you get the power figure of the turbo - 460hp ? From Autocar. Oh, come on.
And merely ten more for the Turbo S over the standard version is an utter joke.
I agree that Porsche has always been rather conservative in terms of power bumps, but so has Ferrari, and notice the power bump the F430 got.

lol, nope, that's not the thing.
I'm thinking of changing my "end of term school work" into an evaluation of the recent purchase by Porsche.
My original thought was making a comparison of the strategies of individual car brands versus big auto concerns. But if you think of it, there hardly are any individual car makers any more. Or none of them is big enough to really matter.
Second of all, I going to apply for a job with Porsche next year when I finish school. You may think that's a bit optimistic but I'm really motivated and well you can allways try.

So... that's it...? Because that's just a 997 with that awful aerokit. The front is especially bad - waaay too busy. I'm sure it's gonna be a beast, but aesthetically it's a huge disapointment (for me anyway). So yeah, I hope that's not the final version.
