Ok as promised here is a pic of the airbox with the lid on and off, you can see how much more air can get sucked in with the lid off!

A couple of vids, one with the roof up (windows open) and one with the roof down

Come one man, I need some before and after footage. Not really being all that familiar with the way an S2000 sounds during acceleration has me clueless to how it sounds with the lid on.

It just so happens I have a vid I shot last summer, you'll see in the following that you don't hear much beyond second gear with the lid on...but this is more due to wind noise than anything. Compare this with the 'roof down' vid in the post above...

I'll try and get some drive by vids at the weekend

There we go, now I can see the difference. Definitely has more grunt to the sound with the lid off.

Not a chance of that.. the intake of any modern car has a severly restricted inlet opening... removing the lid is a free 5hp trick to increase the size of the intake inlet opening on a C5 Corvette.. (just be sure to ziptie the air filter in place in our cas4e - it must surely help out the 4 banger as well.

...any way, the air is being taken in from the same general area, just more of it (same temp as originally - right ?) so he should be breathing easier... and "hot air" is pretty much all you get in a Texas summer
Haha, good point.

But still you have a snorkel that helps route the air from outside, with the lid removed you'll be getting in more air from the engine bay, which is hot air.

Definitely the you might experience a gain in HP because of the increase air even if it is hot air.
