Default Metal Mechanic Has 'Bot It All...

Robots could be repairing your car in years to come - and here's how they might look. Designed to help humans, it'll fetch tools, carry spare parts and even change a wheel. When spanners and screwdrivers are fitted to its hands, it can do virtually any job.

Robo-Mechanic has video camera eyes to recognise hand gestures and is being taught to understand spoken instructions. Electric motors power its wheels to a 4.4mph top speed on the flat, but when it detects obstacles, its legs can step neatly over them.

Finnish inventors have spent more than £1million and six years perfecting the petrol-powered robot, which can work for four hours before it needs a refill.

Wouldn't let that thing near my car. But if you put a seat on it and some throttle controls it looks like it could be a good off roader.
