Default What do you guys think of this CPU/MB/Ram combo?

I'm planning to upgrade my PC, before HL2 hits.

Newegg has a combo going

Motherboard is
ABIT "AV8" K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard for AMD Socket 939

CPU is
AMD Athlon 64 3400+, 512KB L2 Cache 939-Pin 64-bit Processor

and the ram is

Kingston ValueRAM Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin 1G(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200

All this for $570.

Is it a good deal? are the components decent? I'm keeping my old case, HDs, and all other peripherals.

any feedback is appreciated.

My choice would be

On newegg :

pqi TURBO Series Dual Channel Platinum Kit 184-Pin 1GB(512MB x 2) DDR PC-4000 - OEM $255.00

GIGABYTE "GA-K8NS Ultra-939" NVIDIA nForce3 ULTRA Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU -RETAIL $116.00

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz, 512KB L2 Cache 939-Pin 64-bit Processor - OEM $179.00

This is the new 90nm processor from amd , comes in 9x200

So with those memories you can get something like 250x9 = 2250mhz , which should be something like 3800/4000+ , with just a little overclocking

If you won't overclock your system, the kingston stuff is good. Otherwise something else is prefered.
As the cpu, take whatever you wan't

You case and so, I don't know what you have right now but if it's some cheap crap then heat could become an issue.
Same goes for the powersupply, 300w is NOT enough! 350w at least!
How is what i suggested ?

If he doesn't care about overclocking, the memory is useless
And still, the A64 is good at asynchrone overclocking. So you don't really need fast memory.

You can buy super duper nos-injected hyperdeluxe tripple channel titanium gold memory modules, but if you don't overclock you're a dumb buyer! I would even call you a riceboy...
They won't run any faster at stock speeds & timings then the cheap thing you can buy in every shop.
wELL I asked him , but hasnt answered if he wants to overclock

MSI is best now on mobos? I havn't been updated on the computer hardware stuff lately.

When I last read, ASUS was still best. So now MSI got better?

Well there isn't a whole load of difference between the kt800ps and the nf3s. I would just get whatever is cheaper if you aren't planning to overclock. Although the nf3 does have quite a few rather interesting features that makes it better than the kt.
