Default camera connecting to PC problem

I've been having a problem with getting the images from my camera onto the laptop.....it won't show up in My Computer and the supplied software doesn't recognise it either
If I go into the Device Manager this is the message it has:

"Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)"

Any suggestions on how to overcome this would be great

Thanks

yes it shows up, and I can hear a noise when I connect it so the laptop knows the camera is there but I just can't view the pictures on it

hmm ... connect the camera .... goto device manager ... right click and uninstall driver ... then reinstall the driver ( just un plugh the cam and plug it in again)...... try this ... or try connecting the camera to other USB ports ..

phone????? its a digital camera (Ricoh) and I'm connecting via USB.
The cable or the port isn't the problem as I have connected other USB devices to the port and they work, and the cable was tested on another PC and its also fine

interesting .... so .. in yer language .... phone means digital camera .... .. kewl j/k

@ dingo ... another idea ... locate the driver files .. that are most prolly in the system32 folder .. delete them (first uninstall it from the device manager )... cuz the driver files stay in the system32 folder even if yea uninstall it ....

lol i swear i'm going crazy i dont know where i read [camera] phone...
plug in the camera. in device manager, click view > show hidden devices
click through all the drop down lists looking for exclamation or question marks, and uninstall them (unless they're things you are otherwise aware of)...
then reboot and hopefully start fresh with the installation.
worth a go?

lmfao ohh dw i understand...
i don't suppose you're running xp, and have a restore point you could restore from prior to this issue? it won't remove/repair files, but it will fix any problem that might be being caused by corrupt or otherwise dodgy registry bits; which is likely.
