well, a different situation, but not so different outcome in some ways.

i dont know about you, but when you are going 0 mph at the end of a curve, and reverse comes into play... that can result in some serious injury.

that seems to be what it came down to to the stewards, the fact that MS didn't feel safe enough to reverse...

by the guy coming out, it seems like he regrets his decision now that he is free from pressure...

Yes, let's have some benchracers decide what actually happened and leave the opinion of experts out of there.

Anyway, interesting read:

Ouch...
Finally, someone asks today's $64,000 question; "How do you explain that there was nobody out there saying 'I don't think Michael did it deliberately'"

well, even in 97 when MS was disqualified; he said something to the nature of 'thats what happens in racing'

you don't get to F1 by being mediocre. (unless you are Yuji Ide) you know, his qualifying pace may leave something to be desired, but his race pace is pretty good.

Manaco 17-14
Spain 17-12
Nurburgring 17-8
San Marino 17-12
Austrailia 17-6
Malaysia 17-7
Bahrain 17 retired

and of course, Manaco, and spain, and San Marino are very hard to pass at.

he is consistantly slow in quali, but god, look at how much he improves during the race most races!

I know its a bit late, but I missed quali and only now saw the vid of the schumi event.

The link earlier in this post only shows schumi but another one shows an onboard shot from Alonso, so its possible to compare the lines and speeds.

I watched this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzkvf...acher%20monaco

I spent some time watching the onboards of Schumacher and Alonso.
Up to a point just before turning Schumacher's and Alonso's cars where on the same line to the corner, so talk about him taking too tight a line is BS.
To me it seems as if Schumacher just turned in a fraction to early, made a reflexive correction to the left and then skid when trying to go around the corner.
I can see it as an accident. I've done similar things myself in the Porsche (Not comparing myself to MS, just stating that that specific sequence happens.).

I think what several people may forget is that an F1 car has zero grip when its going slow. So locking up in that slow corner with no downforce is not that strange.
That initial corrective jerk to the left compromised the corner entry angle, so its quite probable that he could not turn sharp enough afterwards to make the corner.
F1 cars do not have tight turning circles and his left fron wheel really seems up to the barrier at full lock to me. Lightly, yes, but still touching.
Also to me it seems as if he is really trying to engage reverse to get out.
He can't see back around the corner, so concerns about traffic and the danger to reverse seem very justified to me.

At the speed around Monaco that whole corner takes a second only.
So I'd like to see anyone try correct an unexpected situation like that in a 3rd of a second.
Really, the only question is why the early turn in. And there are a few possible explanations for that.
According to the telemetry he braked harder there than earlier. So a possible explanation is that he was going faster than before initially, prompting desperate push of the brakes and then slower after the brake, prompting the early turn-in.

Furthermore it wasn't that long until Alonso arrived at the scene. 20sec only.
Even if MS had engaged reverse, he would have been directly in Alonso's way had he reversed.

In the end my opinion as that this was a witch hunt, in my mind confirmed by Flav's sudden magnanimous treatment of MS now that Alonso has won.
