gbg, Toronto is a bit warmer in the winter and gets alot less snow than Ottawa and Montreal due to all the pollution that clouds the sky and keeps the ground warm, just joking hogs, well, it is a bit polluted and it is further south and right off of Lake Ontario, so if you go there in March it should be fine, but it will snow.

Ottawa and Montreal are only 180 km away from each other, so a nice 1.5 hour drive if the weather is good, otherwise it could be a long drive if the highways are a mess. Ottawa will get snow until April and the same with Montreal however by the time March rolls around the temperature is hovering around 0 celcius. Ottawa has lots of museums to visit with the National Art Center, National Art Gallery, Museum of Civilization, War Museum, National Mint and so on and so forth, and a decent night life in the market area on Friday and Saturday nights same with Elgin street. However, Montreal is the place to party and get crazy, go to Cresent, Old Montreal, St. Catherine, Sherbrooke, St-Denis, and the Main. Have a great time

If you're cold you may always crash in my igloo for a vodka chugging contest.

one word of warning... watch the weather closely when your between ny and washington.
The weather swings drastically here in march... generally theres a foot plus snow event some time in march to end the snow season.. and unlike canada.. we dont normally deal with those type of numbers outside of the great lakes areas or that month.

Temperatures in the dc/ny cordoor will vary from 70-25f.. depending on the day and the mile.

umm no, he did say he was headed up that way in March. now i have family there (Montreal and Winipeg) and i have been there (Montreal) during pretty much all the months and well March can be pretty dang cold if you ask me. but i dont mind the cold as long as there is snow on the ground or on its way down. i also have family in Winipeg, which i plan to go to in May it'll be my first time in Winipeg i cant wait. and from my uncle there, its cold as shit right now and he hates it.
oh I thought you meant that Canada is cold in general. My bad.

thanks a lot for the info!

so ottawa will get snow on march? this is bad for me... but will it be heavy snow? any risk of getting icy roads and airports closed? i will probably be traveling 1400 km (900 miles) by car between niagara falls and quebec, and i'm afraid of getting stuck because of snow

any chance that things like this will happen in march?

is there any risk on driving on highways in march under snow?

It may or may not snow, the weather is funny around that time of the year, if you are renting a car make sure that it has good all-season tires and if it does snow just take it really easy until you get used to driving in the snow. When approaching a stop sign or lights, slow down well in advance as stopping takes alot longer in the snow than on dry pavement, just use caution and everything will be fine. Toronto's airport gets shut down a few days a year, some days due to snow and other times in the summer due to thunderstorms, but same with every other airport in the world.

When it snow in March it maybe a heavy snow but generally the sun comes out and with lots of people driving on the major highways, the roads are soon dry, so I wouldn't really worry that much, plus you can take pictures and show all of your friends that you can drive in a snowstorm. Make sure to bring plenty of windshield washer fluid that is good for winter temperatures, that is probably all that the gas stations will still be selling anyway
