Default Request: Source of cheap airline tickets to Australia

I'm looking for a good deal for a trip to Australia in early May. I'm currently checking out some of the cheap air ticket places, but was wondering if anyone here from the US has some suggestions for a travel agency.
Thanks.

On BBC America Qantas are forever advertising this deal for $999 from LA which includes a couple of flights inside AUS. Maybe check with them?

Sometimes you get the best deals phoning the airline, I once flew Birmingham UK - DFW for less than $500 and I booked 12 hours before the plane took off!

i dont know if its still the case these days...

but if you are still a student... often airlines offer huge discounts to students for international flights... back in 2000/2001, i was flying usually 40-60% off regular coach prices... but, well air-traffic in the US changed a bit since then

Yeah long gone are the days of flying airtran for 25 dollars anywhere in the US...

I am still a student but Im going with my best friend, who isn't.

My friend actually mentioned Quantas, the problem is to fly with them I have to get to La. Couple that price in and I can almost go out of philly for the same price.
Ill have to try the phoning bit.

He's actually doing the reserving, mainly because hes now decided his new gf whom Ive never met is going, but I promised to provide suggestions. Thanks.

Where exactly are you going?

I would think that flying an American-based airline would be far more convenient, in terms of connections and such, but price-wise, not much different.

Don't know about Australia, but there are may charter flights in Europe, which are extremelly cheap when booked early. When I went to Rome I booked tickets 4 months before the actual flight and only had to pay 7PLN per ticket (about 2USD) + airport fees (around 30USD).

The airport fees cost more than the ticket! Madness! But I don't think there are any charter flights from the US to Australia.

BTW, Gray, I think Qantas operates from NYC to Sydney, as well, which may be a better option, seeing as you live in Delaware(?).

Something we are working on. The idea is to fly into a big city like Sydney, rent a car, and drive around seeing what we want for a week or 2. Really looking to just how to get there.

I was looking at that too, though location from America isnt the big issue cause the friend is leaving from ga.
