Default Another ACO (Le Mans organizer) bulls*** : V10 and V12 banned in LMP1 class

New engine rules for LMP1-class Le Mans prototypes will ban V10s and V12s for 2011. LMP1 will adopt today's LMP2 engine rules for 3.4-liter V8s and 2.0-liter turbos in 2011. LMP2 will then be open only to production-based engines.

"Talking to the manufacturers, we understand that we have to have engines that use less fuel, create less emissions and less noise. This is the way we have to go," said Le Mans rules boss Daniel Poissenot.

The rule changes appear to have the support of Audi and Peugeot, which have dominated LMP1 with their V12 turbodiesels and will need to develop new engines.
In addition, turbodiesel performance will be pegged back for 2009. Engine air-restrictor diameters for diesels will be cut by 10 percent, and turbo pressure will be reduced. The move is designed to restore equity between gasoline- and diesel-powered cars while also increasing lap times at Le Mans because of safety concerns.
