Be wary of vista, it dosnt have all the bugs and stuff worked out. Ive heard bad things about it, and I think someone here was complaing about it and coudnt get it off their computer.

I'm not looking forward to vista. There will no doubt be some issues with it and my school isn't offering it on their msdn yet, so I won't be getting it until quite a bit later next year. Also, it'll most likely rape my computer of all its resources doing meaningless tasks.

Let's not forget one thing. An OS installation depends a lot on the hardware for stability. With the right drivers, an OS can be very stable, and the installation of the latest version of Vista that I did on a laptop of mine, has so far not experienced a single crash or bug worth mentioning.

Your mileage may vary, but I also think that due to the relatively high "requirements" of the OS, it's probably better to just wait before splashing out for it.

Service Packs of course fix many issues, but even when running XP with no SP's, it ran just fine on my computer. A comparison of SP's made not difference to my use of the OS, it just kept on running like it did before.

The biggest reason to upgrade, really goes down to the larger companies. For example, when you belong to a company with hundreds of thousands of users, you expect to have some degree of support from Microsoft for the OS you run. Since Microsoft themselves will not support an OS for ever, they define a life cycle after which that OS is decreed obsolete and no more support will be given for it. Thus companies must constantly evolve by replacing older OS with newer ones to enjoy the latest benefits from the manufacturer.

At this time, I wouldn't fret about Vista. If there is no compelling reason to go for it, you might as well continue to use whichever one you're using right now. If you end up installing a game or an application that will not work on your current OS, then it will come down to making this decision. To move on or just lose out on whatever app you're not able to use.

When Win2k is out in the market, the hardware is running it way tooo slow.....I'll give it a year for the middle class hardware catches up before installing / buying one
