well it is proven that metal bats, hit the ball harder, and faster then wood, on the same pitch. but the vibration of the bat (metal) is to hard on the player, and could cause injury to that player. also faster ball speeds off the bat also mean, more of a danger to the pitcher, and other players (not that a pitcher is gets hit by a come backer every game )
long story short, nothing wrong with wood. nothing wrong with the game, just something wrong with the media

Well I guess you didn’t read the article. The problem is that many players have gone from Ash wood bats to Maple wood bats. Also the handles have gotten thinner and thinner through the years to simulate the feel of the aluminum bats the players grow up using. Add to that pitchers are throwing harder inside. I don’t think the media has anything to do with any of that…

And I don’t think anyone would ever suggest using aluminum in MLB! That is not the issue. At the very most it would be a regulation on minimum handle thickness on maple bats. Or going further and banning maple all together. But I don’t think that would ever fly.

bats have been broken for years...

to me, this is a very minor controversay. i would prefer that players stop taking any/all performance enhancers (short of medical nesessity) then stick with only ash bats.

arguabley, thinner handles are there for phisics reasons... reducing rotational mass means bigger hits. if the means are better stats that improve one's worth, then broken bats are a small price to pay...

the same game is played in golf and such

^^^ just to add to that the bigger barrels and thinner handles cause a stress concentration....hence leading to more broken bats. when the bats were more evenly tapered there was no such stress concentration.

Funny picture on that site. Wouldn't want to get hit by a bat in the face though.

Strange, at a time where in soccer/football the balls explode, in baseball the bats start breaking. It's evil.
