While the fact that they are delayed isnt all that entertaining the technology is kind of cool.. Im left with images of command and conquer with the tesla tanks.

This together with the laser curtains they propose for restricted airspace may have science fiction authors inventing sme new "farfetched" technology too make futuristic stories more believable.

It seams all the sci-fi gizmos of the last 140 years or so are almost in production.

We need a new crop of imagineers to out-do Jules Verne companies ideas.

yeah its pretty bad when our technology surpasses our imagination.

Working in the 'concepts' part of the defense industry is one of the most interesting jobs out there. A mate of mine is a structures guy and he's worked in this field. Some of the things they work on are very much star-trek kind of stuff.

I like these ideas alot, they also have a tank mounted lazer Ive seen in testing they can knock out an aircraft with. Cool stuff, the only thing that bothers me is the big brother aspect of this whole deal, this technology could be used to control people where they can go etc. Notice in the end of the article where it mentions bitar, he says there are applications in office buildings. One can only hope that man will be more responsible with this tech than it was with previous things that we learned.

I don't think he's really positive or negaitive, he's just a realist. And the reality of situations like this and the learning curve of humans with new destructive devices more often than not has historically had quite negative consequences.

I think that's mainly because the majority of men using said weapons are easily amused by things blowing up. Do you really think the 4th of July is so much fun because of the anniversary of our independence? Hell no. It's fun because we get to make things go BOOM

Also one of the reasons New Year's Eve is such a blast

Ha, even if they were invented, they would most likely be treated just like guns by the government. They all have to be registered and require licenses. I don't think they'd be free reign, although it would be cool to watch people have it out with them now and then.

Light saber battles instead of shoot-outs. That'll be the day.

I get what you're saying RC, but those times were WAY before my time, or any of ours on this forum really.

The gun took the place of the sword, and if a portable, personal light saber were to be invented, I'd bet you that people would carry them just as often as guns. The technology and destructive capability would make them far more appealing than a broad sword to todays techno-crazy society.
