Iraq Car Scene
From the Vortex pages:
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1978267
Interesting. I'm wondering where the cars came from or whether parents had them hidden away or something? Were these cars daily drivers even with the Taliban around? I'm thinking they weren't allowed.

The Taliban are found in Afghanistan. A few countries east of Iraq.

Okay...I confused myself. It's early.
Did Iraq have the same social restraints in place? I remember seeing articles of how Saddam's sons had fly rides hidden away...but what about the regular people? Were they allowed to have cars that were unique, etc. or was that discouraged?

By all indications they didnt have the same social restraints. During Saddam's time the religious fundamentalists were in check and most of his power and influence came from his tribesmen. Since the US liberated the Iraqis from their dictator the religious fundamentalists are starting to impose more traditional and religious laws on the people. For all we know the US may had just created another Iran.
I sense this thread will be either closed or moved to the politics section because it deals with Iraq.

I have a feeling those cars were buried under the sands. That's how a lot of people here did when guns were outlawed during Martial Law.

Hahaha. Sorry, just pictured a guy trying to dig up his Corvette when all of a sudden, "Damn it...I don't remember burying this chemical bomb here..." <---that's a little jab at the buried WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) theory
In any case, kind of cool seeing American muscle overseas...

Saddam used to be friendly with the US in the 80's til he turned his back on them. He even shock hands and smiled with Rumsfeld though the video could've been doctored.
