Would you be talking about the whole GT-style wing thing? Usually I don't like to call "rice" but on this topic I have to agree, however, I don't know if this whole trend can be completely attributed to the FAFT & 2F2F movies.
Those movies may well have been contributing factors but I think a lot of the fault lies with the market itself. These Gt-Style wings are somewhat of a new'ish product and IMHO the businesses selling these POS wings are just preying on peoples stupidity and selling these things by the truck load just to make some $$$$
I can understand if a wing of such description is warrented because of the vehicles intended purpose as a race car but on a street car it is not only over the top but completely usless and a waste of money.
Sorry for the rant but that's just my $0.02 worth and I just hate most things that are more form rather than function.
BTW, I'd love to see any pics you may have of that riced out Ferrari, more as a "what not to do" than anything. Maybe the guy will even see his car on here and finally understand how wrong it is to do such a thing to any car, but even more so to a Ferrari!

hey i was about the get a wing for my previous car. it produced downforce which i needed when i was on the track. my intention wasn't for show. but i wouldn't care what you say about it, as long as it helped

What wing and what car? and how do you know it produced downforce? and how much downforce?
Then again, not to be rude, but read over the replies and you'll see that the only thing we had against wings are the big ass fugly ones people put on for show and nothing more.
For example, the big wing on MKIV Supras, it's BIG but it's factory proven to provide functional/useable downforce. Whereas you get a Hyundai Excel with a big bad aftermarket GT-style wing which does nothing except look fugly, see the difference.

if a servo is rated at let's say to push 20 lbs, and that say servo's job is to push up a rear wing on an 911 or a CGT. Wouldn't you say that's a gimmick?
coz the downforce in the above example has to be less than 20 lbs unless there's some locking mechanism. but that would add even more dead weight so there probably isn't a locking mechanism, or would they be so stupid as to put one on?

what i don't get is, most of these cars are front engine and fwd, so u would want most of the downforce in the front, so puttin a huge wing in the back might give u better grip, but if u want to improve your track times, focus more on generating downforce in the front of your rice rocket, *Then it could go as fast as REAL cars*

I agree with SupraPolak but Some wings do work and some don't..What may look good doesn't mean it works and some civic owns should use that as good advised.
But for Race car for example, like A Holden V8 supercar the rear wings on them are designed to give alot of downforce and can be used for a purpose.I have no idea what the figures are on the V8 supercar but I know if the wing isn't setup properly valuable time is wasted by the lose of traction on the rear wheels.Wings do work but not on rice.lol.

it was for the s15. the back end at times gets a bit slippery. i know it produces downforce because my friend (also owned a s15) who was about to make it for me and himself worked in the aeronautics industry. he's moved on to a larger company which he is very busy and us two no longer have the car.
but i wouldn't get one that claims to produce downforce unless i see with it my own eyes.
