Default *** I NEED SOME HELP FROM US BASED MEMBERS ***

I would be very grateful if our US members could help brembo out with with any information you can provide him.

*** POSTED ON BEHAlF OF BREMBO ***

BREMBO SPEAKING :

As the topic says I need help from the US or others members that have input on what to see in the US from mid Febuary to mid March...

I will probably land in Memphis then drive to New Orleans and spend some time in that area, from there we will probably drive towards Las Vegas
I want to make a trip across the border to Mexico when I`m in the area before I head up towards Vegas tough...
I want to do Grand Canoyn, Hoover dam, drive thru Death Valley and go to Los Angles...if there are something happening in San Fran we might go up there also, but we dont want to rush it so if there is no time we will not do that.....

What I want to know about are music festivals nice clubs and such mostly oriented to blues/roots music and of course car events.
That being drag races with the big guns, maybe some pick up pulling (as we will have a couple of US pick up lovers among us...) other car races nascar are not that interesting as I hate it and will tell the others that there are no races on when we are there anyway...hehe...

So the states we will visit are Missisppi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico,(Mexico) Arizona, Nevada and California....So if people have some input on this I would be very thankfull as it will be impossible for me to become updated on what happening on such a long trip...and I will probably not know about things I might want to see....this being other "things to see" stuff also......

I also wonder how difficult it might be to get to visit the Overhaulin set, or meet up with Chip Foose or simular if anybody have contact information to Chip Foose, West coast customs or other custom car places...Automotive museums are also of interest of course also comapnies selling classic american cars are of intrest as I might bring a an old muscle car with me back if I find the right one.....

So if anybody of my JW friends can help everything are of interest..

*Thanks brembo

in California, Bruce Canepa has an interesting collection of 917 race cars that would be worth seeing.

His sole purpose in running his businesses is to run, maintain, and collect porsche 917's of all types... interesting fellow; and ask him how a McLaren F1 handles

http://www.canepa.com/about/tour.html

he has one of 3 "true/orginal" EB110 SS's as well (and for sale)

well now, Feburary is going to be the perfect time to hit New Orleans since that's when Mardi Gras is. You'll have to find out when ash wednsday is this year as fat tuesday is the big celebration, but parades go on all that week. My only piece of advice is this. Find someone who knows the area (gooduck and sentra dude i think are from there) to get you through bourbon street, keep your wallet out of your back pocket, as it may not be there by the time you leave.

other than that you're not going to miss much in that area. shame you aren't coming up into washington though. But there is a chance i may be down in the bay area (oakland/sf) again during that time, depends on when my shift change is.

If coming to Los Angeles is a definate thing I can setup and drive you to all kinds of spots to visit. From local bars on the Sunset Strip, to car meets, museums, and all the hot spots to catch the best automotive photo ops and the like. How long would you be in Los Angeles?

The Chapparall Museum is in Texas. If you are interested, i'll dig up the info. Seriously rare and awesome cars.

Make sure to go to the Wynn hotel in Vegas, it has a Ferrari dealer inside it. I think there is a small fee to enter, but I'm not sure.

If you divert your plans a bit, you could go to the ALMS 12 hours of Sebring in Florida. Thats sometime in march IIRC.

Sounds like a fun trip!

I dont know too much about blues/roots clubs other than the House of Blues on Sunset, which doesnt always have blues groups
http://www.hob.com/venues/clubvenues/sunsetstrip/
but just going down Sunset would be fun as there is a lot to see; Mann Chinese Theatre, clubs, cars, etc.

Pomona Raceway (about 1 hour east of LA) will be having the Winternational drag races Feb. 9-12 with top fuelers and all the other big dogs. March 31- Apr 2 is the Super Chevy Show which always has a huge turnout of show cars and drag racing.
http://www.pomonaraceway.com/2006/schedule.html
Other races around the country I dont really know about, but here is the link to NHRA which should have their schedule of races on it
http://www.nhra.com/

Check this site out http://www.weirdus.com/stories/CA00.asp they have all the odd legends and places to visit in Cali as well as the rest of the US (unfortunately they made a book and took a lot off their site so people will buy the book, which I did so if you have any questions, just ask). Going through Death Valley, you can find the "Moving Rocks" a place where enormous rocks have left a trail from movement over hundreds of years like they are in some kind of race. Kelso Dunes (about 30mi south of Baker) is home to singing dunes where, if you kick sand it sounds like someone is playing the Tuba...its strange. I dont know how much hiking, etc you want to do though.

If you are going up to Northern Cali, you can always stop at Laguna Seca, Monterey California. Here is their schedule http://www.laguna-seca.com/events/

Chip Foose's shop is in Hunington Beach, about 45 min south of LA. http://www.chipfoose.com/contact.aspx?LinkID=tn12 not sure where they film Overhaulin though, but I think its at his shop.

The Nethercutt collection is nice to see if you like really old cars. (Duesenburgs, Talbot-Lagos, Cord) http://www.nethercuttcollection.org/index2.html There is over 100 cars there in damn near perfect shape plus art and strange musical instruments. NOTE: There are two buildings across the street from each other and the one (called San Sylmar) with about 20 cars, art, music is only open by reservation at select times, but its all free.

The Parnelli Jones museum is close to my house and I have been there on occasion, though im not sure if its open to the public or not and I dont think they have a website. There is about 10-15 of his old race cars and memorabilia there, I can find the address if you are interested.

There is also the Petersen Museum http://www.petersen.org/ and if you are interested in going and can give me the date/time you want to go, I can probably get you into the elusive basement.

They are a lot of places around here to see in terms of hot rod builders, speed shops, etc. the only problem is going from one shop to the other in LA can take a LONG time cause of our crappy traffic.

Thats all I can think of right now, I will let you know if anything else comes to mind.

Ceaser's Palace also has an exotic car dealer inside but you have to pay to look.

Florida is not the shit for strip clubs. Arizona is.

besides, stirp clubs are a total waste. you go through a shitload of money for a girl to get naked and dance in front of you. Big deal. i'd rather buy porn so i can watch her and jack off at the same time  seems like a much better deal if you ask me

I shall post some New Orleans info tomorrow...

Edit:

Mardi Gras is lots of fun, but unless you really feel like you want to go to Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras I'd say skip it. Its a major hassle, and its just tons and tons of really drunk and crazy people squashed together. Its only fun if you are on a balcony.

Besides that there are many, many good parades during Mardi Gras, if you are interested Brembo I can send you some more details. If you have other people with you, parades are probably a much better bet, not nearly as packed with people and as wild!

In New Orleans you also have
-River Walk, which is very nice
-Great music scene in the French Quarter
-a bunch of touristy stuff...depends on how much time you have, but just spending a half a day walking around downtown & the French Quarter (not within a day or so of Mardi Gras) would be really fun
-Excellent food, you must try out some restaurants while you're there!
-A big selection of art galleries if you are into that

As to car stuff, not too much...

Too bad you won't be in New Orleans around late April/early May, that's when the Jazz Fest is, that is really a lot of fun! Maybe next time...

Brembo, PM if you want more infos, and when it gets closer to see about meeting up! 8)
