i take it its not acually built yet? how far from completion is it?
i would have expected a more professional webpage considering the magnitude of such a project...

Dubai will have the world's first underwater hotel by 2006. Billed as the ultimate in luxury living, the Hydropolis Hotel will cost an estimated $500 million and feature over 200 suites.
While the technical details are still being worked out, the property will be built down to a depth of 20 metres, some 300 metres off the Jumeirah coast.

Joachim Hauser of Germany, who has had extensive knowledge of the Middle East through a slew of products in the last two decades, has conceived the project, which is being actively promoted by Dubai Development and Investment Authority.

The latter is currently sounding out potential investors to join in, and already some 20 per cent of the required outlay has been committed.

Officials with the promoters declined to get into specifics about who will manage the hotel. The hotel has three elements - the land station, a connecting tunnel and the submarine complex.

2006... thats pretty damn soon!

It looks like the rich and famous will all flock to Dubai...first the Burj al-Arab (the tallest hotel) and now this. Beautiful place nonetheless

Very cool 8) and interesting architecture although I
doubt they will be able to do it all within a 500 million
dollar budget, I say at least 1 billion dallors.

Imagine what will come next, imagine a day when the
tallest building in the world might be under water. This
direction in building seems to have quite a big potential,
considering that %75 of earths surface is coverd with
water. Japan is exploring the idea of building on water
to, do to there serious space limitations they have to
find other places to build, and what better place to build
than on water and up in the sky.

Good points, although I think that it is very unlikely. They
have built under water before ie. tunnels, and underwater
observatories, as well as other stuff and haven't had to many
bad accidents. Still it is a creappy thought and will undoubtedly
be on the minds of a lot of people who stay there.

Isn't Dubai the home of the worlds only 7 star hotel? Looks kinda like a fin, or a sail, or something. Very cool.
