Yes I know exactly where that Mazda dealer is. I'll have to go there next time I'm in Huntington.

I don't want to upload 120 pics on imageshack one by one. So I made Facebook galleries of the pics I took at the same event.

While it was likely periodically driven by Steve Saleen, it was not gifted to him; but one of two pre prod cars that SSV had...
The said dealer (at least in the EBAY ad, and likely still... refuses to tell potential costumers that the car CANNOT be registered for road use; among other bits that should be declared... like it not being Steve Saleens car, nor was it gifted to him. He has been told as such, yet does not change his story. Also, the engine was not a bored out 4.6... but the 4.6 that was originally in it was replaced with a production 5.4 dry sump engine.

The Nardo car was not either of the two cars used by SSV

This car is going for auction for charity in a few weeks under the same stipulations mentioned before. No road use is legal.

These terms are stictly to protect the seller.

This is no different to someone purchasing a large sheet of plywood, attaching an engine and wheels and driving it on the freeway as a special project vehicle as a private individual.

A determined person could get these vehicles all registered/licensed/insured for road use.

The problem is this: The resale dealer is not disclosing this information in the sale.

^The reseller does mention that it's not street legal, but doesn't say what the buyer should do about it. And they drove it around anyway,

The key is just that - they are a reseller of the car - so unless they signed an agreement when they bought the car to promote the exact content and wording of the original declaration made by the selling manufacturer - they have no obligation past a "For Sale As Is" notice - and unless they imply that the car IS street legal, all they need is note that the car is NOT street legal.

The bottomline is buyer beware and be aware of what you are buying.

The legal ramifications are no more or less than the afforementioned sheet of plywood with an engine and wheels attached to it.

If anyone is to be liable and to be blame to bame for anything, it would be FoMoCo for NOT destroying the car in the first place -

the ebay ad said that there may be ways of registering it; which by implication is suggesting that it is street legal. Additionally, the ebay ad never said it wasn't street legal. Even after the seller was told as such, he refused to change the contents.

buyer beware indeed.

Sorry for hijacking the thread; the photos are great, and some fantastic cars 79, and heil!!!!

^I was wondering how that was going to work out, but it seems like the seller will dump the problem to the buyer, of which there are none.

Steve Saleen should've just kept it. These one offs are one offs, especially something that was personalized for him.

Anyways, it failed on ebay. $145,200.00. Reserve not met.

Too bad it's not authentic. This particular one was converted to Competizione spec in 1985.

You make almost make it sound as if it were a kit car or something. It's still a real Daytona though, so I don't know what you're so worried about. RC's car is a real Z06 that wasn't converted to "Competizione" (read: insane) spec until now . . . hehehehe

23 potential years of racing isn't too bad for racing history either.
