I had an old 486 with a 166mmx processor. That was a beast.

16mb ram and 850 mb of hard disk.

It must have been somewhere around 95 or 96. Me and a friend went to the library where you could pay per 30 minutes. We were very curious about the internet, but found it a bit of a letdown. Of course we didn't know the interesting sites and the speed was crap, so I left with the idea that I saw very little interesting stuff and waited a long time to see it.

Later, at uni, I had better access and surfing became more interesting. However, it wasn't until I got internet access at home just two years ago that things really got entertaining.

About 1992 for me. My late-friend was a PC tech and at the time had a 'super fast' computer at the time; can't remember the specs on it, and a 28k modem-Yeeehaww! Used to go over to his house and check out the 'net. Not like what it is now.
are you sure about the 28k thing... im quite sure that wasnt available until sometime around 1995

some of you may remember the collection of computers ranging from 1982-current times in my house. since at least 1986, my dad was using various modems for use of his work; as i remember the computer dialing out/recieving data.

our first internet modem was a something like a 9600 baud modem(ill look for the collection of old modems, and see if i can post a picture) . my first experience with the internet was mostly text based myself, asking questions to astronauts on a nasa site. this was 1993... but i didn't start using html based web until 1996 on a mac-n-crap with 68megs of HDD
