78 if i remember the Fox report correctly. Oldest Cardinal to ascend to the position in over a century.

How do they come up with the names for the pope? His real name can't possibly be Benedict the 16th can it?

It's Joseph Ratzinger, this pope was unexpected.

I was hoping for a Latin American/African/Asian Pope.

It seemed everyone was fixed on an Italian pope, so i guess thats why i surprised, but it seemed the Cardinal from Niger was actually up there too, i wanted him to get chosen.

Ratzinger is one of the preferitis of this conclave...and as my understanding, the cardinals in order to be elected, the cardinals must be between the ages of 60 to 80...and yes, this is one of the oldest popes elected...

The Pope was drafted into the German anti-aircraft corps, responsible for the guarding of a BMW plant outside Munich. He deserted afterwards.

As a 94 year old I'd think you wouldnt mind someone so young to being Pope.

Pope John Paul II was only 55 when he was elected But this time they didn't want a pope
that was too young because they don't like the idea of a long papal reign(not that they
didn't like JPII who by the way was the third longest reigning pope ever).
