The rule is any Roman Catholic Male. If the Cardinals saw it fit I could've been the next pope. The age rule comes into play when you're one of the Cardinals who'll be voting.

I've been hearing how conservative this new pope is and he might want to not recognize U.S. catholism, i don't really care cause i'm not catholic but the church needs to grow with the times.

Not to mention the fact TT already locked that one just to prevent another flame war
gobs- how many years did it take the catholic church to recognize gallileo's work? the key word there being GALLILEO I belive it was JPII who finally pradoned him, centuries after his death.
I really was hoping they would have chosen a pope who woud have continued the modernization of catholocism, but it looks like they will be taking a few steps back. But then again, this guy is 78, so for all we know we could be having this same discussion about the next pope by this time 2007

Why would anyone have a flame war over Pope Benedict. Oh... right...
I think the Pope John Paul II apologised for the persecution of the Italian scientist and philosopher Galileo Galilei. I am unsure if he recognized his work though. So long as Benedict sticks to the path Pope John Paul II started I see no reason to worry.

MercedeSChink: work of fiction which the author brilliantly wrote to generate as much attention as possible.

A poorly researched "fact". Being drafted into the Hitler Youth doesnt automatically make you a Nazi. At worse Pope Benedict can be called a diserter.

I'm just thinking the consequence that will happen because of there very conservative veiws, very few organizations (i consider this an organization) that don't modernize their veiws get screwed in the end. There's a Priest in New Zeland that isn't recognized by the church anymore since he has a women preist as a co-priest(not sure what you would call it). At least let the preist get some ass through marriage.

he wasnt drafted, he went under his own free will.

How do you know? In Iraq a lot of young men were drafted to defend Sadam from the US military. That doesnt mean they were evil people.
Seeming the new Pope's german maybe we'll see this as his new popemobile.

For the record I am making no material content contributions to the subject of this thread - and am just stopping by to note an observation:
The the same radical leftwing minded characters are already playing their normal roles and antagonising the decent folks..
Seems that "they" are the common denominator of upheavel in many threads...
...just some food for thought.
I will again withdraw to the sidelines. Bubye.

If I'm am not mistaken the Catholic faith is a conservatively minded faith so I think
that most popes weather young or old would tend to lean in the conservative direction.
It's just part of being a Catholic.
