Default Dubai

Can someone tell me a little about Dubai? I saw a recent episode of Modern Marvels or Super Structures (can't remember which) where they showed that the prince in charge over there, created a man-made island, shaped like a palm tree, to increase beach-front property because it's such a booming local for travel. I missed the beginning, which probably talked a little about the political background, governing body, etc. It seems like an absolutely beautiful place to be, with crystal clear waters...as long as it's not the stormy season...WOW.

Is it like a Middle East "Monte Carlo" with lots of money around, nice cars, etc.? What's the feeling regarding foreigners visiting, especially Americans? It looks like a place I would like to go visit someday...

I'm just looking for casual discussion, not term papers or political debates...more like a travel book kind of review. I think I remember a few JW members being from that location? Thanks!

Yeah, but there's nothing like first hand accounts from people here, since we all share a pretty common interest in cars....

well i went there a couple years ago, my dad said it has changed somewhat since i went (he does contract work there) but the city is what I would call a mix of british and north american. it has roundabouts and intersections,
amzing buildings (that are only half full @ best) and a very friendly people.
you could do the whole country in a day or two.

Dubai is part of 7 United Emirates, that's how United Arab Emirates name came up.

Anyway Dubai is a growing city, It is building the tallest building in the world which will be called Burj dub it is under construction as we speak. About the man made island, they are 3 island which looks like a palm tree and 1 which the world map and as I understand they are all sold.. I know Dubai has the only 7 star hotel in the world and also building an underwater hotel. Real-Estate is crazy over here..

Cars, well where should I start. We got 2 tracks. 1- A Drag strip which is located in Umm Al Qaiwain which is about 1.5~2 hours depending on traffic from Dubai. and the other which is Motorcity which has the Autodrome with it's 5.39km track, along that the motorcity has a racing school, kart track, homes, offices, warehouse and shopping area.

Time to visit UAE, Dubai winter which is from Nov to Feb. If your closes to these month then you will be fine if you came in Aug then don't it's much comfortable for you to cook your self in the oven than walking outside.. hehehe

Ask me what you want to know.. .

AD is the more arab in root IMO, not that many biritish/french/americans there. yet I was only there for 2 day on my 3week trip, it is the more "proper"
of the two.
Dubai is the tourist city, and Sharjah in like the suburb
