Default Classic Motorcycles

Lately I've been looking for one of these but I can't seem to find anything around me, nor can I find a price anywhere. Anyone have one, or heard of anyone having one?

Thought this might make an alright topic. Got something you like too?

You can buy very similar brand new, they are based on old BMWs (very much like those in the film in your sig)

http://www.imz-ural.com (although I wouldn't pay anywhere near the price they are asking!)

http://www.dnepr.ru/motogal.htm (same bikes)

Also check out:

http://www.enfieldmotorcycles.com/

And

http://www.triumph.co.uk/usa/786.aspx

Try www.cycletrader.com and you can search by make, model, year, zip code etc. Also, there is ebay.

What about something more upto date, but considered a modern classic, like a good condition Suzuki GS, Kawa KZ, Yamaha XJ ...all available for $1k-2k except for the Kawa Z1-900 which has 'cult' status...

In the 70s Kawasaki/Suzuki also made some mad-as-hell two stroke triple cyl bikes that'll make a man of you if they don't kill you first! KAwa KH and Suzuki GT are the models...

Food for thought - the 70s/80s Jap bikes I just listed will handle and stop MUCH better than any of the 50s/60s/70s European bikes...and be tons more reliable...

You can pick something like a '97 B1200 Bandit up for $2.5K-3k, a decent condition classic brit/german bike can cost twice as much...

What do you think of these ideas?

If we can establish what you want, how much you want to spend, how often you want to ride it, etc, then it will be a lot easier to point you in the right direction

A 40's BMW would be a dream bike for me but it's totally impractical. I could justify something like this though. Without these handlebars. I don't want anything too fast or expensive I'd go up to 5 g's max. This'll be my first bike. What's the word on older triumphs? I like those too.

Any older Brit bike is a complete nightmare reliability wise.

Parts are hard enough to find in the UK. Mind you, you'll face this with anything 'classic' - you can't just walk into the dealers and look stuff up on microfiche. I might be wrong but the new Triumphs might not be the same company any more (The company went bust or something late 70s and then it all got resurrected in the 90s)

Stick with the BMWs - even a late seventies model will look VERY similar to the pic you just posted. These bikes evolved and evolved.

Search cycletrader for R45, R65, R90, R75 - all BMW models with varying sizes of the venerable 2 cyl boxer motor.

Yes, those handlebars are a bit 'ghey' aren't they lol

Some BMWs 1980 and older:

Don't expect to win drag races with any of these!!
