Interesting read. Idd quite a strange arrangement of the cranks/firing order for an inline 4 cylinder.

wow that's pretty strange. I wonder how theres a real advantage of a firing order like that is, other than just acoustically? (I haven't read the whole article yet)

"Something gives you the feel of more torque. Its an illusion - but an illusion that's actually happening" Erv Kanemoto

basicaly its all about that the longer intervall betwin 2nd and 3rd pulse gives a bit more time for tire to grab the surface ....
hard to explain in two words so just take few min and read it

haha youre explanation really isn't all that bad

just read it, and thats some pretty interesting stuff. Thinking about it though, it makes sense, and has a lot to do with the elasticity of the tire and how it grips. Its interesting that they were able to so easily balance the engine though.

I wonder if this is applicable to cars too? Or perhaps other variables overtake the advantages.

i dont think that it would apply to cars....
ie. F1 got quite similar power to weight ratio but it got two huge weels at the back to transfer this power onto tarmac and also plenty of downforce....
u have to remember that bikes cant accelerate in full lean (in a corner) so gaining that extra couple of meters when they can open the throttle a bit further gives huge advantage
