I use my phone a lot, where i am in university a cell phone is a lot cheaper then a house phone. a cell phone for me is crucial.

I rarely used my cellphone, although I always carry it for emergencies. In fact, since 2000 I have been on pay-as-you-go so you can imagine my phone is not the latest model!!! I am a cheap bastard.

Are you crazy? My brother is on a $35/month plan but the most he pays is $75 even if he makes $300 worth of calls. Its with Optus and he is using a Motorola V3 - surely you can find a similar plan to avoid paying that much money every month.

I speak about 800 minutes per month , 500 of outgoing calls and 300-350 minutes ongoing calls .

That makes it like 120 hours in the 9 months i have my Samsung E715 , thats 13 hours per months in the cell phone .

My phone is :

Hopefully in a week or 2 im changing to this :

And my plan in Chile is as follows :

Cost of the Contract : 37 Dollars
Carrier : Entelpcs www.entelpcs.cl
Anytime , any company minutes : 440
Free SMS : 80
Free MMS : 0
Extra minute : 0.12 cents (us dollars )
Extra SMS : 0.086 Cents ( us dollars )
Extra MMS : 0.17 Cents ( us dollars )
Wap : 0.11 Cents per minute
GPRS and EDGE : 5.2 Dollars per megabyte ( what a ripoff )
Roaming ( outside Chile ) : Around a dollar the minute

Cost of the E715 :

if you have a plan and want to buy : 439 Dollars
If you get a contract : 328 Dollars
For the VIP Users : 170 Dollars

Cost of the RAZR V3 (Inc Bluetooth headset )

if you have a plan and want to buy : 483 Dollas
If you get a contract : 343 Dollars
For the VIP Users : 241 Dollars

* Vip users are members who either talk a lot or have a lot of lines .

Very complete so you can get a peek at the mobile reality in Chile , is way better than the US , but still down compared to Europe .

BTW , this should be moved to comp , gizmos and taht shiot ?¡

I bought mine in September, and so far it has been going pretty good. It is a LG5450 Tri-mode PCS Camera Phone and my Provider is Telus. I bought it since I had no land line when I came back up to London in september, and since I didnt really have any money either, I bought into that 3 yr contract. I dont mind so much now, its pretty reasonable, but I really have to limit my usage to the times they allow you, otherwise it can get very $$$$!
