Default Speaker Problems

So for the past 6-ish months, my Harman/Kardon Soundstick computer speakers have been having problems. Whenever I play music, every 1-5 seconds it sounds as though the sound is cutting off for a split second. It sounds a bit like how a CD would sound if there was a scratch on it that caused the song to skip for a second.

I'm not really sure if I am explaining this well enough for anyone to answer my question, but has anybody dealt with a problem like this? Is it my speakers? My sound card? Thanks for the help!

To figure out if its your sound card or the speakers,
Try connecting your speakers to an mp3 player or pretty much anything other than your PC's sound card.
