Default Hydro-Pneumatic braking system for BRD Speed7 pedals

In cooperation with a friend Jochen Lau has developed a hydro-pneumatic braking system for the BRD Speed7 Pedals. This will be implemented as a complete upgrade kit. You simply replace the original brake spring unit with the upgrade kit. All mounting elements are designed bolt-on so except for the brake spring unit the pedals remain in its original condition.

Based on a Festo mini-pneumatic cylinder (with the appropriate adaptions to piston stroke travel / pedal travel) the effects a driver experiences when pressing the brake pedal in a real car are hydraulically / pneumatically simulated. In contrast to the original braking element made by BRD (spring & foam) a continously increasing brake pressure is realized. The mechanical resistance / hardness experienced when pressing the brake pedal feels substantially more realistic with this new unit. Possibly the brake pressure adjustment will be controlled pneumatically. This means that the pressure can be increased with compressed air (e.g. at the next gas station) or decreased by opening a valve.

Incase of sufficient demand a low volume production is being considered. The price will vary between 100€ to 150€ depending on feasible constrution.

Sure sounds interesting, might have to pick up some BRDs just for that.
