Default Targa West 2005 - (F308, Pantera, 996 GT3's, 993 RS, R5T...)

Well this week was the inaugural running of Targa West in Perth - a tarmac rally based on events like Targa Tasmania over east.

The entry list wasn't as enticing as those other events, with about 70 cars entering. However it should get better as the word spreads how good it is.

One of the Evo's took overall honours, with a bunch of 911's not far behind. Unfortunately the Pantera and black GT3 both retired from the event so only a few pics of them on the first day. :bah:

I wasn't able to attend the tarmac stages over the weekend due to other commitments and it being a 3hr round trip to watch. Anyway I got a bunch of pics from the prologue (Thurs.) and the finish today.

All the high-res pics can be viewed on my website  http://www.ozcarsightings.com/targawest051.html

Awesome black-on-black 996 GT3 Clubsport

A MkI GT3...burnt some rubber at the finsihing ceremony!

The only Ferrari in the event - a 308 GTB.

DeTomaso Pantera GT4 - what a great looking/sound beast!

Renault 5 Turbo - only a couple in Australia, and it sounds more like a V8 or 12

993 Carrera RS - one of my favourite 911's!

Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RS - with 240kW (320hp).

Many old and new Mitsubishi Evo's entered....

and a couple of E46 M3's also

In case you missed it all the high-res pics can be viewed on my website  http://www.ozcarsightings.com/targawest051.html

Nice pics

The site is getting a lot more content, and the coverage is top notch.

Maybe not supercars, but the Porsches look great, as does the R34 (that photo is so moody 8) )

Keep up the good work mate

Dude, awesome cars. You don't see that many Porsches in a rally over here, let alone a DeTomaso Pantera or a Ferrari.

That Pantera looks monstrous. I love it. Of course I'm also fond of the 993 RS ClubSport and the 991 RS. And I'll repeat it once more, the shape of a 308 still looks great today.

The R5 Turbo is a rare car for sure, especially since I think this is the '1' version and not the Turbo2 (maybe Dani can confirm this?). It looks good as well in this 'Gordini' bright blue.

I actually tried to find that out myself, but no luck. All I discovered was that the number of GT4's that left the factory is unknown, due to the fact they were built to special requests into the 80's.

Well... just go to a classic rallye in Catalonia and you'll find one... or more if you're lucky
Where they only made in left-hand drive? I only know of 3 that are road-registered in Australia.

What do you mean? here they're all left-hand drive...
I wasn't talking about the ones in Spain, I meant were all R5T's produced from the factory as LHD's?

I just found the answer:

"7260 vehicles have been built between 1970 and 1991"

Apparently only 6 of these were GT4's though.
