Which is why there should always be a solid barrier between the runoff and the spectators - especially at the end of a high speed section of any type.
Piss poor track design.

The tyre barrier was not even as tall as a mini cooper.. that is too low.

There was actually another crash there the following day, but the car simply skidded onto the tyres so nothing dramatic happened. I suppose the track management felt that the low barrier was enough to cover all eventualities. Clearly nothing like this had ever happened before.
