Audi R8 vs. Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper, Porsche Turbo
Interesting comparison, the Porsche is the faster in straight line and the Viper
but the car that sets the new benchmark for supercars is the Audi:

What a poor showing.
Either the cars/tyres they got were al worn out - or they cannot drive for shit.
The Z06 and 911T have posted way better 1/4 mile and braking times - even in the hands of amatuers... and if it was the "location" that caused the low numbers, then the R8 really sucks... it was about as slow as used Mustang.
It is seldon you see a Viper test so terribly messed up as that.
Oddly the testers claim their "30 years of car testing" means something... but wouldn't it be a more valid test if they could actually put down the numbers that Porsche, Viper and Vette owners (who are rank amatuers) can put down?
Great show piece, but hardly a great display of those cars true capabilities.

That's strange - in the other topic you are BRAGGING about the Veyron out accelerating the starting grid of LeMans..
Make up your mind - standing start acceleartion is either an important benchmark - or it isn't.
And note how the M5Board meeting actualling inlcuded all manner of roll-ons and standing start runs.
The only people who don't consider speed and pace important have never driven anything faster than a shopping cart.

Ugh! I am sick of magazine editor type people not being able to drive cars like the viper and vette near their full potential in the quarter mile. Note that the vette had a faster trap speed than the porsche in the 1/4 mile but was still nearly .4 seconds slower. This is a pretty good indicator that the tester was pretty poor at launching cars with that much low end torque/power. It is known that stock Z06's in capable hands can run 11.5 seconds on a drag strip.
Anyway, I love the R8. It's nice to see people giving it such high praise.

I think the 911T did so bad mainly because it had an auto...well tiptronic. Everyone knows these are so garbage and don't even rev match on downshifts. Also, the upshifts are extremely slow.
The R8 had the R-tronic box, and obviously the Vette and Viper had their 6 speed manuals.
I think I would still choose either the Vette or 911T if I was buying one of these cars.

Thanks for the vid gangajas, a great find! I think that was a great vid, no bullshit, just cars being driven hard on the track. 8) Awesome sights and sounds from all cars involved, I'd take anyone of those cars in a heartbeat.

there is def. something wrong with this article... the viper beat the 911T around a track... haha... must have been a track designed by Dodge... and even then...

So lets get this straight:
0-60 mph = 4.74 = R8 dead last
1/4 mile = 12.93 @ 109.4 mph = R8 dead last
Braking (Ft.)
30-0 mph 29.90 = R8 dead last
60-0 mph 120.90 = R8 dead last
Lateral acceleration (G's) .95 = 2nd to last
Weight/HP:weight ratio 3650 lb./8.7:1 = R8 dead last
Powertrain 420 hp/317 lb.-ft. 4.2-liter V8, 6M = R8 dead last
As tested $119,000 est. = 2nd most expensive
Sound levels (dba)
Idle 61.4*
Full throttle 80.8*
60 mph 73.6* = loudest with the least power (all show and no go relatively speaking)
The only thing this car won was the slalom and lane change.
Yet they pronounce this as the best car there?
For the price, lack of power, inability to stop or go, lack of cargo space, and no proper manual tranny, this really seems like a poser car to me. Any anyone that's educated to what the audi is really packing (relative to its competition) will know just what an idiot that poser is.
