OK - video of the rev counter, speedo and GPS verification would put this to rest....

We did an indicated 332kmh (206mph) in a standard 996 GT2 last year in Alice Springs, so there is obvioulsy quite a bit of inaccuracy in the speedo if the factory figures are to be believed.

Topspeed factory claimed is 193 mph or 311 kph. So 197 mph on the speedo wouldn't be that ackward.

Although this particular car appearantly is modified, I wonder why Porsche would choose to severely overrate the topspeed of the GT3, RC?

WHo said anything about "over rate" or "underate".

It comes down to physics... what gear does the car pull 190mph? And then what would be needed to pull 197mph in that gear?

Wheel/tyre diametere and RPMs in the gears will determine whether are car is gear limited (a physical limitaiton you CANNOT over come until you change gear or dif ratios.... ot a drag limited as in the car will not pull any more RPM's in stock form - and then if you want to go faster you MIGHT be able to do so with a shorter final drive - or more power.

These is the absolute truth.

I am not slamming or hating on the GT3 - I love the GT3, but I am also partial to 100% factual posts on JW...

We do not promote and support rumour or busllshit... right?

Gear, power, wind resistance - this determines how fast you can go... not what the 'fanboys" claim

You either change gearing, add power or lower windresistance

A stock C6 Z06 should be able to pull 198mph. Thats about 6400rpm in 5th gear. Red line is 7000rpm, so in the idea is that with an extra 100hp (which is what a header, cam and ECU excercise will get you) the car should easily pull closer to the 7000rpm redline in 5th gear - 7000rpm in 5th calculates to 219mph - so how close it pulls to 7000rpm we shall have to wait and see.

It will not be long before we start seeign what GPS groundspeed the modded C6 Z06's start turning in.

As an indicator, stock geared 550+rwhp C5 Z06s have been posting 205mph+ true ground speeds in 5th, and a couple of the 650+rwhp Twin Turbo cars have posted 215+mph times in 6th... thats only turn 5300rpm

I have bumped the rev limter in 5th in my car when it was stock, so that calculated out to 175mp - I have an extra 250rpm available now, so with the extra 100hp I have will pull 182mph in 5th - and if other folks are anything to go by, with 420rwhp I should be able to pull about 4900rpm in 6th gear, which is 198mph.

The secret is all in the gearing - the C5 Z06 has shorter gears than the C6 Z06... so we are crippled by having to shift UP to get past 180mph.

With a transmission swap to the C6 Z06 (which is actually the regular C5 Coupe transmission) the C5 Z06 will be able to follow the C6 Z06 speeds very closely.

Enjoy your upcoming ride... is this the same person/car then?

Thanks RC.

Not sure if its him but as far as I know, Sweden dont have many Z06 yet. His car is about one month old so he recently got the car.
