Ferrari destroyed in F1 test
02/06/2006 09:09
Luca Badoer did not return to test duty at Circuit de Catalunya after a huge accident on Thursday.
Ferrari's veteran test driver left the right-rear but also the front section of his '248' car totally destroyed after losing it in the ultra-quick turn three sweeper and smacking conveyor-belt covered tyres.
Italy's Badoer, 35, emerged from the red car as a few flames emerged from the bodywork, but was unhurt.
The car, however, is beyond repair.
Anyone else got more detailed info...?

It's amazing how safe the drivers are in an impact like that..

They're also made to break at a certain force, and then when it brakes in a crash like this, it absorbes the energy of the impact, like with a crush zone on a normal car.

^^I believe you mean crumple zone, and since the driver cockpit is made to withstand these crashes it's not too surprising he lived unless the crash was above 150 mph
|
what was button doing 3 years ago when he smacked the wall coming out of the tunnel in Monaco? 180+?
they can withstand speeds higher than 150. the thing that will kill a driver these days is internal injuries due to the Gs sustained in the sudden stop. Or, a car just drives straight through you like what happened a few months back in IRL

He didn't broke the record, you can only break a lap record during a race He did drive faster than the lap record. Faster than all the cars have done this entire year, 0.5 sec faster, and that is a lot faster!
