i'm just wondering how well it will actually work with no airflow in the bed of his truck at 60mph, there is a nice little vortex back there, so i'm wondering if there will be enough air going across the condensor to even make the AC unit effective

as for airflow, the low pressure there is still very much compared to even a thousand ft. (100mb) higher, so that wouldn't be a problem.
its pretty cool he went and made it work, is it cheaper then fixing the trucks AC??

Because of the way an AC unit works. The whole thing is based off of heat transfer which requires airflow. if there is no air going over the condensor, then the change of state cannot take place in the freon and it won't be as effective.

Well I would say that is at least a $350 AC unit so probably not! That AC is 5200 BTU and is meant to cool a decent sized 1 bedroom apartment not a tiny truck cab LOL Thats serious overkill!!
